One K Defender MIPS vs non-MIPS

I’m thinking about replacing my One K Defender non-MIPS helmet with a Defender MIPS. The non-MIPS small regular (not long oval) fits me perfectly, so I’m wondering if a small MIPS will fit just as well. Anything else to consider besides size and obviously added safety - are they significantly heavier, hotter, do they tend to sit higher/lower/or the same? Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks!

The best answer is go try on both models. Find what fits you best and is most comfortable in a MIPS helmet.

I am someone whose life was saved by a helmet 2 years ago. It was a non-MIPS, but was cracked through in 3 places and it did its job.

I replaced it with a Uvex MIPS, and have no regrets about doing so. The Uvex fit my head best. It is very lightweight, and is no hotter than my previous Tipperary. I would have bought a MIPS Tipperary, but it was not vented as much as the Uvex, and I live in the South and ride through the summer so good ventilation is important. I don’t feel like my Uvex sits any higher than any other similar helmet, and it does not feel awkward or bulky.

Helmets are going to fit differently from one model to another, MIPS included. You really need to find what works for you personally!

I have heard they fit differently. I went from a One K to a Trauma Void.

I upgraded my oneks to MIPS a few years ago. I don’t notice any difference in fit.

Thanks very much Touchstone, so you stayed the same size in the MIPS model? I’m replacing mine under One K’s replacement program, and want to upgrade to MIPS but there is not one locally for me to try on.

My experience with One-K fit was the same as @touchstone‘s. Same size. Same fit.

Awesome, thanks so much!!! Definitely going to upgrade!

Same here–no difference between Defender and Defender MIPS for me (long oval). As far as I can tell, the MIPS addition is just a very thin yellow plastic slip sheet that you don’t feel or notice under the liner.

Thanks so much for responding and sharing your experience, very helpful! Will be sending mine off Monday for replacement with MIPS model.

I wore the standard OneK for years and found the MIPS version to be too oval for me but I think I am very much in the minority! I ended up switching to a Tipperary Windsor.

I had the same experience, the MIPS One-K did not fit and I have been a One-K wearer for years. I found it to be more oval as well. You have to try the helmet on, never assume the mips version of your helmet will fit.

I went from a long oval OneK to a MIPS long oval OneK, same size, no noticeable fit difference for me. Very happy to have finally found a MIPS that was oval enough for me!

Update - was able to find a One K CCS MIPS (regular) to try on and it fits me exactly the same as the Defender non-MIPS. Thanks everyone!
