One K Defender vs Ch.Owen JR8

Tried on the OneK suede last week, size medium and it fit nicely. It’s about $40 more than I’d like to spend but I really liked this helmet.

For those of you who’ve had/ worn both, which do you prefer?

Also, is it a new trend to size helmets by SML now adays? My old helmet had my true size in it… 7 1/4 or or the like… can’t recall and the tag has worn off. Am I getting ‘less than’ quality-wise by subscribing to the S, M, L system?

What say you helmet junkies…
Thanks in advance.

Whatever truly fits your head is the one you want to wear.

Thnx Flash… I know that much.

I should have clarified that I haven’t been able to get my head into a JR8… yet. And of course purchasing online is desired b/c it’s cheaper. I’d like to avoid buying then returning. Of course I’m going to just stop into my local tack shop and buy from Danny if he carried both and I can comparison shop. Just figured I’d ask opinions here first.

So again… if someone who’s had the good fortune to have had both on their head, what’s your preference? Why? And, relatively speaking do you have a round head, or long oval or somesuch.

I had a JR8 and sold it to my trainer when I got the OneK. My head is a long oval, more oval than the JR8 could accommodate so it always felt too tight, though it was the right shape.

I Love my OneK, I don’t notice it’s on my head.

Me in the JR8

I think the JR8 is a little taller and mushroomy than the OneK.

I had a CO GR8 and recently switched to the OneK. I liked the CO and found it quite comfortable, but my main reasons for switching:

-venting
-removable, washable, replaceable liner

No kidding, the OneK has REMOVABLE liner?
Pffft. That may have just sealed it.

Tho’ my old helmet is years passed proper replacement time, my major reason for replacement is I can no longer scrub the funk out of it.

I never thought of my head as oval per se, but the OneK fit nicely, so perhaps I am.

Mine does! And you can buy new ones for 25-30 bucks (in Canada anyway). That was a big selling feature for me as my previous helmet was pretty disgusting. I have sensitive/acne prone skin and I hated to put the thing on. I did of course clean it, but because you can’t submerge and scrub them so I never felt like it was ever really clean.

My last helmet was a JR8 and I definitely prefer my oneK. It’s lighter, has vents, and I like being able to switch the size of liner depending on if my hair is in a french braid or not.

If you care for not looking so mushroomy, this one looks even less so than those mentioned:

Uvex Perfexxtion Active CC Helmet

Ok, link didn’t work, but that was the name.
any opinions on that one?

I am still using an old suede Troxel Sierra, thinking it is time for a new one some day …

Those new ones sure seem pricey.

So weird… I have the JR8 and a super oval head. The JR8 isn’t oval enough. I ordered a OneK in long oval and it was WAY too round. As in, did not feel remotely oval at all. The company I ordered from confirmed they had indeed sent me a long oval helmet, though I guess there’s always a possibility they were wrong.

The JR8 is just all-around really not that comfortable of a helmet - primarily for not being oval enough, but also for lack of ventilation and having a crappy harness that’s offers no favors when trying to get my hair under my helmet. If the OneK fit me at all, I would absolutely pick that one.

Personally, I like the number sizing since I tend to fall just barely in the “large” category (I wear a 7 1/8). With s/m/l I usually end up with a giant mushroom shell to accommodate my barely large head.

I don’t know why it fits me better I guess, but it does. I can tolerate my Ovation schooling helmet, it’s light but not as comfy as the OneK. If I could comfortably wear a cheaper helmet, I would. Instead I just wear obnoxious helmet covers over it and wear it all the time

I really like my oneK. The long oval fits my head really nicely with my hair up and if I want to put my hair down, all I have to do is swap out the medium liner for the small. And it has the best vents ever. I swear, when the wind blows, I actually feel a breeze!

The oneK comes in regular and long oval. So, you may have simply tried on the regular. The long oval is not super oval, but it just gives a little extra room front to back without gapping at the sides, which is great for accommodating the pony tail.

Love my OneK! So flattering, light and its great to be able to remove the liner. JR8’s made my head look too mushroomy and like mentioned, seems to fit a more oval shape better (going on standard sizing, not the long oval options)

One K just came out with a new Long Oval Model! Which fits me perfectly.

From what I have found, you either have a head that fits in a OneK or a CO. Since the OneK fits you well, I’d be willing to bet the JR8 won’t.

I also love my OneK and am a member of the long oval head club.
