What has happened?
Nevermind, I just read the highlights by COTH. She’ll be fine tomorrow.
Why? She’s one of the top riders in the world - if not the best on any given day. She’s proven herself over and over. The mare had an off day - it happens to everyone. She was trying too hard and didn’t want to land in the middle of an oxer - can’t blame her for that. The mare is still young and her nerves got to her today. I’m sure she’ll be great the rest of the competition.
Happens to anyone on any given day. 
Everyone has bad days. Life happens. While I wish it didn’t happen at the Olympics, she wasn’t the first to have it happen and she won’t be the last.
It’s too bad that happened, but if anyone can bounce right back, it’s Beezie.
I guess we can say that about Eric’s mare - younger and less experienced than he would have liked…but with Eric he can pull it off!

Kind of unnecessarily nasty, don’t you think? Beezie rides great and I don’t think anyone could have gotten that mare through that combination today. Unless you personally have represented your country on the international stage, perhaps you should reserve judgment about an internationally proven competitor who had one bad day that happened to occur while millions watched.
Well darn, Beezie had a bad day at a big event.

She is still one of the best riders in the world. I wish her the best on ALL future rides.
So refreshing to see how jumpers rally behind the US team members when one of the great ones has an off day with a younger horse. Can’t say the same for eventers, who can be rabid as in the past olympics.
I am curious: after Beezie was eliminated, she jumped a fence on her way out. Is that allowed?
Yes, it is allowed.
It happens, even with the best riders on the most experienced horses. They’re living, breathing, reactive beings, not machines. Beezie is one of the best and one bad moment most definitely doesn’t affect the amount of respect both she and the mare deserve.
So when the Canadian rider’s dressage horse got overwhelmed and had a total meltdown in the ring the other day it was just horses, but when Beezie’s horse had a bad go today it is a reflection on Beezie? I don’t get it.

I’m also a little confused by all the talk about an off day for Beezie. The mare was jumping in a way that barely rideable, and in the two short tries she had, she gave her a forward, straightforward, confident ride without being foolhardy. Was she supposed to have made some hugely obvious correction so that us viewers at home could see? Just because the mare was visibly pulling like a train to the left doesn’t particularly mean that Beezie wasn’t doing her utmost to correct the situation. In my eyes she gave her a great ride up to the point she left the ring - I don’t feel that combination was doable with a small horse hanging in the air to that degree. I
I have my fingers crossed for a fabulous day tomorrow. and hope Via Volo comes back and lays down some brilliant rounds:)

That’s correct. The round in which she was eliminated was an individual qualifier.
^^ ouch. poor Beezie. It’s unfortunate that one thing like that can keep someone out of the individual competition this early in the game. I wish that would have merely dictated the order for individual competition or something like that instead of complete elimination
Gil’s Girl - agreed. Some people on here and on Facebook act like she got into a half seat and grabbed mane at three strides out or something. She delivered a strong, tactful, correct ride on a horse that was determined not to jump that two stride. Don’t get me wrong - that is a great mare, but today she was an exceptionally difficult ride.
For what it’s worth, the BBC commentators were pretty firm that it was rider error, especially the second go. They felt she gave the horse the exact same ride and didn’t give the mare a chance for an alternate route so to speak. But who knows? Maybe Via Volo just didn’t want to play today. No one was on top of her but Beezie.
