Update! The babies (as I call them) are almost a year old! I took some pictures to show how smutty Meecy’s coat has become. Thing are pretty much the same with them. Sassy has gotten better about being petted, but she can’t stay still for more than a second, ever! Meecy follows me around the house begging for me to play with her, which I do pretty much every second I am at home. She is comfortable being around me, but not my husband. She does not want to be touched, so I respect that. With the photo of three cats at the door, it started with all four at the door, but by the time I got my phone, Ramsey had left! Bummer! Oh, speaking of Ramsey, both babies still worship the ground he walks on and want to be with him always! Meecy tries to lay beside him, although he’s not a big fan of that!
Mercy’s coat looks like marble! Such a unique color - it’s so pretty. Maybe they will get more cuddly as they age and grow out of the kitten sillies? Provided they can peel themselves away from their beloved Ramsey haha!
Meecy continues to get darker! It baffles me! Every day, her color has changed! Here’s a picture from this morning:
She is about a year old now. When she was about 8-10 weeks old, she looked like this:
It seems like every day, she had more marbling! Fascinating! Do all color-pointed (not purebreds) cats do this?
She’s beautiful!!
I don’t know about color points specifically, but when Snickers was a baby she was almost all black except for a few orange spots. She grew into her tortie colors.
My understanding is that Siamese kittens are born whitish and develop their points as they grow up. So it makes sense that the marbling here increases too. Kind of like how Appaloosas can develop more spots over their lifetime.
She is gorgeous. My best cat ever was half Siamese. She was a tabby no Siamese color, but had so much personality
My understanding is that color-pointed cats have genetic variation which turns the coat dark ONLY where the skin is below a certain temperature. So the ears, tail and paws turn color first. The colder the ambient temperature as the kitten grows, the more of the coat will darken
Most Siamese and Siamese mix start out light and then darken up. My little tortie/lynx point did the same thing as Meecy.
Little Meecy is a real cutie.
Really! This is super interesting!
My aunt had a Siamese cat once, when the “apple-heads” were all that were available. As I remember, “Curtains’” (named for his penchant to climb curtains as a kitten) coat darkened as he got older. I mean, REALLY darkened.
I had a (not-purebred) tortie-pointed Siamese once. A friend told me that ‘cats are telling you that they love you when they blink their eyes at you.’ Thus, she was named “Sapphire Kisses” or “Kissy” for short.
I want another “pointed” cat someday but will have to wait until my ‘clowder’ of six reduces substantially in number.
It sounds like tortie-points are much more common than I ever thought! I love the story about Kissy! Thank you @Janet for the link!
Here is Meecy today. She has gotten so dark and so marbley! I can’t get over the change of color!
It’s been almost a year since “the babies” joined our family! They still adore their Ramsey, and he still puts up with them!
Look at the cuddle puddle! So colorful!
Awww, that’s a wonderful picture. Such a sweet pile of kitties.
I was reading the original post by @BatCoach this morning and thought how funny it was that the babies (yes, I still call them babies!) turned out! Here’s what the OP said:
"The trap was out for all of 5 minutes when a sweet Siamese kitten wriggled under the chain link fence to check out the bait. A tortie kitten was quick on her heels. This was not quite what I expected. Siamese kitten walks into trap and starts chowing down. Tortie is so hungry that she hangs around (normally cats flee when the trap springs). I grab a towel and an extra can of food and lure the tortie to a wall and am able to snatch her up with the towel. They are both small enough I am able to open the trap and put her in the trap with her sister for safe transport back to my house
“Im impressed that they both started to purr and relax when I was flea combing them. The Siamese is slightly bigger and bolder than her tortie sister and they are going to be really sweet pets once they settle in.”
Here’s how things are: Meecy (the Siamese) has turned out to be untouchable by humans, remains taller than her sis, but very slim. She is a chow hound, but VERY picky. Both girls are extremely picky and like opposite things! It’s funny that BatCoach said that Meecy was bolder, as Sassy (tortie) is the one with zero fear and is 100% curiosity! Sassy has turned out to be a total love bug. She especially loves my husband compared to me and totally performs for him. Both just adore Uncle Ramsey and relentlessly pursue him. Poor guy can’t even take a nap without one baby demanding attention from him! He’s so good natured that he puts up with both! Meecy is extremely attached to him and will go through the house calling for him if he’s not in view. Here is some photo spam! There is one pic of all four cats, a rare one since Momma doesn’t care for the babies. There is also a pic of Momma and Sassy side by side at the door, which was quite a surprise for me to see! Sassy’s favorite position is twisting on her back and she loves to watch TV with us! IMG_4497|240x320
A rare ‘momma’ sighting indeed! That is so funny! I wonder if they were more apt to being touched since they were kept in my downstairs bathroom and I was the only living creature they were interacting with? Did Meecy instantly fall in love with Ramsey and decide she only had room for one love in her life -him?
I love Sassy’s stunning eyes and chonky floofiness!
I’ve heard of some cat rescues separating
Good question - I do think that Meecy is just plain comfortable with cats. She tried to make overtures towards Momma when she first got here, and continues to, but is always rebuffed. She’s so attached to Ramsey! When she and her sister were in a bedroom after their spays, she was depressed. She got more and more depressed the longer she was apart from him. We put kiddie gates in the doorway so she could see him, but in the end, it was too heartbreaking to watch her pine for him, and we took down the gates earlier than we should have. Talk about being happy again!
Sassy is one of a kind, for sure! She has to be in the middle of everything, and watches it all with those owl eyes! She has no particular attachment to her sister. She looooooves Ramsey, and tries to hang with Momma.
