After my most recent SJ lesson my gelding’s legs were very irritated and swollen where his boots go. This has happened in the past couple rides with these boots. They’re Eskadrons that I got for myself a few months ago in the value-pack or whatever (front + ankle boots). I’m going to give them to my friend because I know for a fact that she needs new ones and Eskadrons don’t irritate her horse. Does anybody know of a good brand of boots for less than $100? I’m not looking for a specific shell/lining. My gelding is a 16.1hh Appendix with mostly TB, so he has finer-boned legs.
I like the roma sport pack. Comes with open fronts and little open hinds. I’ve used them for over a decade. Teknas have a nice pletherish open front with matching open front hinds.
Some horses are allergic/sensitive to neoprene. Make sure whatever brand you get doesn’t have the same lining to avoid a repeat situation.
This. I would look for something fleecelined.
I was going to suggest fleece or leather lined. Waldhausen makes really nice cheap ones! https://www.waldhausen.com/en/synthetic-fur-boots.html
Would also recommend looking for a pair second hand, online probably (we happen to have a local tack shop with an unbeatable consignment room). I’ve purchased Equifit open fronts for $75 used before. They were still in good shape and worked just fine.
Not sure if you need all four to be under $100 but if non-neoprene is important, I really like my Majyk Equipe Infinity Series boots. They’re around $90 for fronts and $70 for hinds, new.

I’m not a fan of fleece or fake fleece because I think it’s hard to keep clean. YMMV.
The New Zealand company Punk Ponies makes a leather lined boot that comes in a full set for $100 USD, if you like navy or burgundy or turquoise. They also have full sets of fleece-lined ones in every color under the sun (including plain brown and black) for $60 USD. I have a set of navy glitter ones, because that’s who I am as a person.
