Open Front Boots

What are your favourite brands and why?
I’ve recently started considering a new set of open fronts. My Equifit D-Tecs (specifically the hinds) are getting about time to retire, so I’m trying to decide if I just buy Equifits again or something else. So curious about opinions of other brands.

Edited to add that I have eskadrons and thermal therapy boots (same idea as back on track). Eskadrons have not been my favourites, I’d rather stick to Equifits

I like Eskadron, Waldhausen, and Roma for neoprene schooling boots. I also like the Beval leather and fleece ones.

I’ve always loved Eskadron for schooling. Tried and tested!

If you are looking for some open fronts that are reasonably priced I am very impressed with Back on Track. They fit my horse well and have held up nicely.

I agree with Eskadron.

Veredus

I love the Back On Track open fronts too…they hold up and fit very well.

Can answers also include why you like the boots? Just curious as to why they’re your favourites

Equifit’s were my favorite for years until I recently purchased the Veredus Carbon Gel Vento set. I haven’t touched my Equifit’s since and don’t plan to, the Veredus ones are amazing and the fit is so much nicer. Not to mention the ventilation is a huge plus.

I use those strictly for shows and school in LeMieux open fronts, which I am also a big fan of. https://www.ridingwarehouse.com/LeMieux_Open_Front_Boots/catpage-LEOPEN.html

Highly recommend either brand, depending on your price point.

@CKoerper I REALLY like the hinds of the Le Mieux boots with the tabs, and I had no idea they existed until now! I’ve been looking at the Veredus but was wondering if they chalked up to their claims. This is exactly why I started this post! Thank you

Equifits are my choice. My equifits last longer than the other boots I’ve tried. I personally don’t like the look of the eskadrons with the Velcro, but that is purely aesthetic and my own opinion. I have the equifit D teqs and love being able to wipe down the shell and wash the liner. I have a pair of Veredus in the brown color and several people at the barn have them in black, and they get dirty so easy, especially if you’re in a rainy area. If mud gets on them, simply hosing them down won’t help. It’ll look fine but they dry the color of the mud from the ring, which in most cases is grey-beige. The only way I got rid of the residue was leather conditioner, which is odd. I also found that the liner got stiff and since it was thin, it wore down quickly. I also have the cwd leather open fronts, not the equifit ones, and they’ve held up beautifully but only used at shows and occasionally schooling. Definitely not suitable for everyday schooling, especially if your horse rubs the boots because it’ll wreck the leather in no time.

Also for schooling, equifit came out with the new multiteq boots where you can get the front set and the hind set for roughly the same price as the d-teq front boots

I think the Eskadrons, Waldhausens, and Romas are good quality and hold up well. I like the Beval leather and fleece because my horses’ legs don’t seem to get as hot and sweaty underneath them and they’re also good quality and durable.

I like the Veredus as well for the reasons listed above (good fit great ventilation, and they hold up well). I will also add that if you buy them online from a European store, you can generally get them for much cheaper, even with the shipping and VAT.

Leather conditioner does work, but the easiest way to brighten up the Veredus if they dry a bit dull is a spritz of Show Sheen and a quick rub of a towel. They can also be thrown in the washer occasionally no problem.

As a groom who has had to put on/pull off and clean a whole lot of boots, I like Veredus. They go on and off easy, fit most horses well and stay where they are meant to.

I also used showsheen and threw them in the washer but the effort to keep them clean made me appreciate my equifits more. I do like my veredus, I just personally feel equifit is superior both in support and upkeep.
