Opinions on 4 Star quiet ride

I will be purchasing a new 4 star trailer soon and am looking for opinions from those who have the quiet ride system. It is basically a $1,000 option, so just trying to decide if it is worth it or not.

How quiet is it truly? Worth the extra money? Also interested in longevity of the system - does it hold up well or is it more likely to break (extra moving parts, etc)?

I have ridden in the back of a 4star (without quiet ride) to figure out why horses were anxious in it while they were perfectly comfortable and relaxed in a Jamco. It is very noisy - as in lots of metal on metal clanging. This obviously has been a common complaint or they wouldn’t be offering the upgrade. I don’t have any experience with how effective their efforts at making the ride quite have worked, sorry.

Also if you are ordering custom I would be sure to reconfigure the windows so that the horses can see out. This makes a big difference to many horses in my experience. Good luck with your purchase.

I have a 4 Star with quiet ride and it’s lovely. Never have issues with horses loading. I’m not able to compare it to one without that feature, but I would suggest you get whatever you’re really hoping for, since 4 stars can easily last you for 20+ years

Thinking I will just go with the quiet ride. It’s not all that much more $$ compared to the cost of a new trailer, and I plan on keeping this trailer for a very long time. Thank you both!

Kaitlin, FWIW, I ordered mine w/ QR. Love the idea and I am hopeful that my horse’s occasional pawing/stomping will not have the metallic ‘ping’ any longer. Mine isn’t due until the end of March. If you get yours before then, post some pictures!

I’ve got the 4Star 2+1 with Quiet Ride and am very happy with it. I don’t hear any noise from it and my horses ride quietly in it. At first, I was somewhat dubious about the cost and feature, but the more I thought about it and researched it, the more in made sense to invest in particularly as I was getting the 2+1 and those center gates without it, do make a lot of noise.

I’ve had one without, and one with quiet ride. Get it. It is so much quieter in the back–they have basically put thick rubber in-between all the metal touching metal. Its great!
Corey, it has nothing to do with the floor, so it won’t make any difference to a horse that paws…

Thanks dressagegirl, I am aware that the QR doesn’t have anything to do with the floor. My existing 4Star 2+1 does not have QR and some pawing causes the center divider to clank. I am hopeful that the new one with QR will eliminate all of the metal/metal noise no matter where it comes from.

Corey, oops, my bad. I misunderstood your post. I’m sure it would stop the divider clanking. You can’t make it clank if you want to!

That is exactly what I was thinking. No clanking, no matter what. Glad you like your QR. I am trying to be patient for when mine gets here…

I have a 2017 with Quiet Ride and I love it. I do not hink it will break easily. I have a camera in the back with audio and It is very quiet. I also did the WERM floor and I am glad. Some of the upgrades were worth it to get the factory warranty etc.

Love mine, but the only piece of advice I would give is order a spare butt bar. It takes A LOT of force, but a determined 17.3 warmblood flying backwards will twist the tube. Once the tube is twisted, the mechanism doesn’t work, and is impossible for normal folks to fix. I think they are around $125-ish. I now always have a spare one.
