Long story short: husband has thought about a golf cart but I want something with more abilities. I want the heated/air conditioned cab and several other bells and whistles. Does anyone have one of these and if so, what do you think of it for around the farm? I would like a diesel, but will it warm up the cab well in winter?
I use a Gator at a farm I occasionally work at, and it’s awesome. It is a 6x4, gas, and does not have a cab. What it does have is the hydraulic dump bed. I clean stalls directly into it, drive it to the manure pile which is off in the woods, and push the button to dump it. It sure beats a wheelbarrow! They use it for other things as well, like taking the trash cans to the end of the driveway.
So, that’s the power dump bed? I know there are two kinds and the one I want is the powered kind.
We have one with the electric dump bed, but no cab.
We use it to check pastures, fences, water holes when too wet for pickups, to pull the roping dummies, works great for so much.
Maybe we are not cold enough to need an enclosed cab, if someone is, they would sure be nice.
BO is on Gator #3 over 20 years. She gets the low end models and the 16 y.o. and up kids drive it. Having done chores on the farm before she bought the first one I consider any Gator as desirable as long as it makes it out to the poop pile and has a dump bed.
To give some context, it would just be my husband and me driving it, maybe my 64 year old friend on occasion. Husband and friend hate the cold, I hate the heat. So just three older adults driving it around the farm, maybe the neighborhood once in a great while. I am thinking that more work may get done if husband has a place to get warm and doesn’t have to walk everywhere, which admittedly can get exhausting under certain circumstances. Plus then he can put his chainsaw or other tools into the cab if it starts to rain.
For those who have used it to haul manure, no problems emptying the bed with or without the power lift?
The other UTV I am also looking at is the CanAm Defender, going to test drive one. I was very sold on the Deere until I got my neighbor in my ear wanting me to look at a Polaris, which just doesn’t interest me. The thing on the CanAm that does is the large bed. Need to ask them what incentives and discounts they offer, and warranties. I have never gone wrong with the best warranty the house has to offer. I just used a warranty on a vehicle last year and that paid for itself. I have looked at used but I worry about possibly buying someone else’s problem, did that enough in my youth.
