Opinions on Windridge Farm HT prelim

Wanted to get thoughts on Windridge Farm HT prelim course. Never been to the horse trials, so I don’t have any idea on how the courses ride, terrain, facilities, etc.

Thank you!

I LOVE THIS HT. have not ridden the Prelim course, but the HT is amazing. Nice courses (BN, N and T) over nice terrain, Becky Holder and some of the Aiken crew is regularly in attendance. They feed you breakfast and lunch. Stalls are portables, but totally fine.

Gah! I’m so sad. I had every intention of attending Windridge (closing date is tomorrow), but the timing for getting the crew back to college is making it a no-go.

I’m already planning on the October one, though. I think it’s about 3.5 hours from The Carolina Horse Park area. I’ve heard only good things.

Loved this event. Temp stalls but they are fine. Show jumping on grass some terrain. Short hack to dressage. The year I did preliminary xc I thought it was fair. Full coffin was in the woods. A fairly stout corner also in woods at the time. Down bank to skinny…up banks
to skinny. Water I think was a drop to a skinny. It was about 4 years ago so it’s all fuzzy. I remember thinking it was fun but definitely enough to do!

I am glad I came here for I completely lost track of time and just got my entry in. Whew!!

I’ve not done Prelim, but I will add my voice that Windridge is an exceptional venue to compete at any level. I’d found there BN/N courses to be more old school, jumping in stride type fences and require at times a bold, but fair ride. It is not soft (anymore), but the CD has created courses that fit into the surrounding countryside without a lot of pomp or fluff.

Stadium is on grass and in a slight bowl which makes riding a clean round challenging. They are introducing a new dressage ring(s) that are closer to the show grounds which is nice.

This time around I’m trailering in instead of taking a stall. We’re only 1:10 hours away. I feel you’ll have a great time.
