Opinions re: Picking an Old Style Stallion to breed to Old Style Hanoverian Mare??

Maybe we can see pictures of the op’s horse so we can better asses her definition of old style… btw, I think my mare is an older style too, and I love it!

I also like the old style Hano.

What about Freestyle? He’s lovely, not too modern, and has/throws a great temperament from what I’ve heard.[/QUOTE]

Freestyle is definitely not an old style WB. Throws beautiful babies, but I would never call him old style. He is typey though.

No, Freestyle isn’t old style, but I wouldn’t call him super modern either. He just seems like a nice medium between the two that would compliment an old style mare, and he puts a great temperament on his foals, which the OP was looking for.

Here’s a short video of her so you can get an idea of what she looks like. http://youtu.be/dVTVe1rk2Z0
Here is a link to my farm page so you can see a few pics of Grandune.

My 2 cents is that you want a stallion with an excellent type that really stamps and has the offspring to prove it. Escudo ll or a stallion like that. http://rainbowequus.com/rem-stallions/escudo-ii/

Yeah, I would still disagree. When I stood next to him last year I was very surprised at how modern and leggy he is; I was not expecting that. That being said, his bloodlines don’t scream uber modern to me. He does have some older, solid dual purpose blood that might produce more substance than his own type would suggest, hence the mixed reviews…Either way, he produces nice type. Again, maybe a good compromise?

Bermudafarms = have you decided, or created your short-list?

All this talk about Freestyle makes me even more anxious to see what my big Hano mare Avaia produces, she’s due to have a Freestyle foal in July.

Escudo II is a really super suggestion.

Look at Pik L & some of Anne Sparks horses from her breeding program. Lots of substance.

What about Beste Gold?

After reading everyone’s suggestions, I think that Freestyle, Graf Top and Escudo are my top 3. I have met San City who is local and really liked him, so may follow up on him also. I’m only 5’3 so I don’t need something that leans heavily or is gargantuan lol… although I like the big guys. I really am grateful for everyone’s input  When I make my final decision I’ll definitely post it!

I agree - Escudo II would be a good choice.

I realize that Wolkentanz II is not exactly old fashion - but I suggested him because he has a lot of older blood up close on his pedigree and I would not consider him extremely modern either - like the Freestyle suggestion of a nice compromise to improve a bit on an older style mare.

I stumbled across this guy a few minutes ago and it made me remember this post:

I really like his pedigree and look … but I know absolutely nothing about him, but I thought I would share.
