Oral pentosan?

I know that pentosan is approved for both IM injections and oral use. But I haven’t had any luck finding studies that specifically look at oral use for joint support. I know joint support is not the primary use of the drug, so not sure if it only works through IM injection. But I was curious to see if anyone has used it orally or read any studies about it being used orally?

I have a horse who is not a contender for any regular injectable joint treatment because she gets allergic reactions to needles.

I found that and this article that states something about the calcium derivative being absorbed better than the sulfate.

On another note - does she have a reaction to non-coated needles? I had a horse that would react to standard needles, and it tuned out that it was the coating. Non-coated needles made a huge difference.

Unfortunately she is prone to reactions even with non-coated needles. And given this, the vet (and I) think it is not worth doing any kind of monthly injection as the risk of an anaphylactic reaction from her is just too high.

If she ends up with any acute joint issue, I think we could direct joint injections since those are not done regularly. But a monthly just isn’t a safe option with her.
