ORANGE COUNTY HUNT: STOLEN HOUND PUPPIES!!

3 puppies were stolen Mon from the kennel on Obannon Road, The Plains,
VA. 1 dog and 2 bitches. 9 wks old. All have ear tattoo’s, OCH
in one ear, litter # in the other. Red pups w/ a little white. If
anyone hears of these pups being offered for sale, please contact
…540 270 8350. Please can you pass info on to
anyone and everyone who may be able to help.

Have the hunt checked the local shelters?

They immediately contacted the local police, dog warden, local shelters and the MFHA. They are also posting on social networking sites like this to spread the word and asking all people, foxhunters or not, to keep their eyes and ears open in the hope that the puppies can be located and the thieves apprehended.

Wow, I just can’t believe some people. Jingles for a safe puppy return.

GOOD news!

Saw on FOL that the pups were found.

They were found not that far from kennels. Wonder (without poking the dragon) if they just … got out of the pen, somehow. I certainly know no details - there may be some reason they know they were taken, but … I’ve seen animals do some amazingly unlikely things.
I’d love to hear the whole story.
So glad, though. They were just 9-10 weeks old pups. Imagine how scared/sad they were. Poor babies.

Orange County Puppies returned safe and sound by local teenagers. Found whilst on their 4 wheelers, dumped in a field on route 55 between the kennels and The Plains.
Thanking everyone so much for help and support. Thank god for tattoo’s!!
Reg and all the kennel staff!!

thank goodness. My old hunt. Thank goodness

Glad all were found safe, but can we have better details. For example "owner found locked door hasp broken and dogs were missing. How did someone steal the dogs (hounds?)

I heard more of the story last night that shows how the huntsman knows it was a theft and not a ‘pups squeezed thru a crack’ thing. (The pups were in a separate lodge, he saw mysterious headlights, driving slowly past kennels, twice, late at night.)
I apologize to any and all involved if I sounded doubtful of their theft/vs. escape. Hard to imagine someone being that weird/crazy to take 3 puppies from an attended kennel.

I would guess that the person took them thinking that they had not yet been tattooed.

Someone who wanted OC breeding.

When he/she found that they had been, brought them back close enough to be found and dumped them.

I’m super glad the pups were found safe! On a note not entirely related to this thread, but sort of, does Orange County tattoo all their hounds?

I ask because my inlaws have a retired foxhound with ear tattoos. “OCH” in one ear and a number in the other. Is there any way to find out info about her through her tattoo? Just wondering. She’s a sweet, sweet hound.

Yes, as the snippet you quoted says- hunt’s initials are typically in one ear and litter number in the other (typically the numbering system tracks year of birth as well). OCH could be Orange County but it could also be Old Chatham Hunt too. Anyhow you could inquire with the hunt’s Master and I expect they’d be happy to look up the info in their records.

Nope! Old Chatham does not and never has tattooed their hounds. Looks like you have an Orange County Hound

How neat! The next time I’m visiting my inlaws, I’ll be sure to take down her number and contact the Orange County MFH to see if they have any info on her. Would be fun to satisfy my curiosity!
