Happy, happy days! Ordered my new saddle. It’s a Stubben Zaria Optima mono flap cross-country. Seems to really fit my two seniors with shark withers and sway back. Even fits the lower withered but not wide pony!
What do you think about a little blue piping or stitching? Too blingy for hunting?i really like the blue trim on the demo saddle I tried.
Saddle will be mocha with tobacco trim. ( caramel reddish brown, lighter brown trim.
If anybody needs an older but lovely Albion jump saddle in very good condition, I plan to trade it in on something narrower. It needs a wide horse,is probably medium to medium wide. 17" seat, square cantle, minimal knee roll, recently flocked. I showed a-level shows and it looked just fine.
Might ne perfect for wider QH or warm blood.
The waiting is the hardest part. I have a saddle fitter coming at the end of the month for a new custom. I am considering getting a nice colored piping. It sounds like blue would be nice with the mocha. I am not a fan of the colored stitching. I would think the colored piping would be subtle enough to not be a problem hunting.
I have been told to avoid the metallic colors for piping as they don’t hold up as well.
I had a Hastilow on trial that was black with navy blue stitching, and you had to be nearly on top of it to notice. I really liked the contrast, and it was definitely subtle enough for the hunt field for no one to notice.
Ultimately I went with a custom Heritage monoflap (you just can’t beat his prices), and yes waiting was the hardest part! The saddle has a contrasting white piping, and I think its lovely (similar to the Prestige saddles).
So for a mono flap, how are you going to handle the girth tightening needed after 1.5 hours out? This is a serious question and pretty much the main reason I am not looking at mono flaps. My horse, and many I have hunted before it, do need the girth tightened a hole or two going on the second hour of hunting.
Don’t get me wrong I love the feel, but worry about the stability when we’re across the countryside.

I’m going to private message you about your Albion
ISR- Don’t want to derail this thread but would LOVE to know more about your Heritage experience. Am thinking about one for my boy. Can you please PM me? Thank you, thank you!

It’s actually very easy. Just ,move leg back a bit, lean down and tighten. Many people prefer it to putting leg up and being in a good position to fall off.
My friend has a monoflap and it is pretty easy to tighten from the saddle.
Drool! Very excited for you!!
I hunt in a monoflap and I’ve never had any problems tightening the girth.
