Dedication in Edward Abbey’s novel The Brave Cowboy, published in 1956:
“To the outlaws – to all of them:
the good and the bad, the ugly and
the pretty, the dead and the live.”
Made into the movie “Lonely Are the Brave” in 1962, with a great cast including Kirk Douglas, Gena Rowlands, Walter Matthau, Carroll O’Connor, William Shallert, and George Kennedy.
And a lovely 3yo mare, “half range stock, half Appaloosa,” who looks like a silver dapple or a dark sorrel with flaxen mane and tail, “Whiskey.”
