Orijen plant fire

Heard from my local pet store that there was a fire at Orijen and their food would be scarce for the next six months or so until they would be able to repair and replace their oven.

We stocked up on the Regional Red that we feed. I’m unsure if Acana will also have production delays–don’t know if they’re produced in the same factory.

Just a heads up for those of you who feed these brands!

Arghh!! I wonder if it affects Acana too (I’m guessing it will). My dogs like, and do well on, Acana Grasslands. I could not get it for a couple of months this summer/fall because they fell behind on production when they made a packaging change. JUST started restocking it in the store I buy it at.

I moved my dogs onto Wellness Coare while the Acana was unavailable and just today finished switching them back to Acana. Figures. They just aren’t destined to eat this food, apparently, even though it is their favorite :(.

Yep - the people at my store said both brands will be affected; meanwhile, they are trying some other supposed high-quality brands from Canada. I got some samples of something called “Petcurean” - first ingredient was de-boned turkey, it’s grain free and the dogs seemed to like it on their kibble night.

The font is almost identical to Acana and Origen’s ingredient list.

Yes, our last order for Acana Ranchlands wasn’t able to be fulfilled because of the fire. Chewy.com did offer us any of the other varieties instead. I’m not sure whether those are unaffected or whether they just had some in stock…

Petcurean is a wonderful food, my picky dog went nuts for it!!

I mix Now (Petcurean) with Wellness Core for the picky eater, and she loves it.

We were told that Acana would be impacted, might just be our region. Also, this is getting a bit weird with this company, first they could just not produce enough of the Range or Ranchlands, (the one with buffalo) for months it was short, or not existant, and now this.

Kitchen Accident Results in Food Shortage at Champion Pet Foods

A malfunction in one of the main ovens at Canada based Champion Pet Foods has led the company to reduce the amount of dog and cat foods they will be producing. Affected foods are in the Orijen and Acana cat and dog food lines.
The malfunction, which occurred in the early morning hours of September 8th, caused irreparable damage to the oven. In a press release announcing the 40 percent cut-back in production, the company stated that in accordance with their mission to produce their own foods on site, as opposed to outsourcing the production of foods in the interim, they will be temporarily discontinuing some sizes and formulas of dog and cats foods and lessen the quantity of some others until the necessary replacement of the inoperable oven has completed.
While they will be making reasonable efforts to supply as much of their products as possible to retailers, customers who
have come to rely on finding their products easily may find that they will have to wait until production is back up to par.
The foods that are being placed under limited production are:
Orijen
Adult Dog
6 Fish Dog
Regional Red (dog)
Cat & Kitten

Acana
Wild Prairie Dog
Pacifica Dog
Grasslands Dog
Ranchlands (dog)
Chicken & Burbank (dog)
Lamb & Apple (dog)

First Mate?

Squish, have you heard anything one way or the other about First Mate? It’s 4 stars at dogfoodadvisor, but I’m curious. (been feeding it for a few months now in addition to raw)

The store emps told me that they have their own plant, where they also make fish food. (I’ve read awful things about what they put in fish food too)

Oy vey I’m turning into a dog food dork.
