Just curious if anyone knows a similar product that isn’t a prescription. My Lab went to the vet with a hot spot yesterday. Fortunately, this is only the second hot spot that I’ve ever experienced with my dogs. Both times after I left the vet and we had clipped, cleaned, and powdered it, I felt a bit ridiculous for not having been able to do that myself  (Not to mention I paid to watch someone else do it for me!) Granted, if it’s something that looks like it needs antibiotics or further investigation, I have no problem taking them to the vet. Just wondering if there’s something safe that I could use to help dry up a skin condition like that before it gets out of hand and warrants a vet visit.
Ask your vet to sell you a bottle. Otherwise try Anti-Monkey Butt powder or even just a little hydrocortisone cream can sometimes work wonders, or Benadryl spray.
Getting any brewing spots clipped and cleaned with betadine or chlorhexidine is key and may be enough to avoid a vet visit. Air is your friend. Stay away from neosporin or cream based products. The powder isn’t what I would use on my patients. For OTC the benadryl liquid spray is decent. For clients with pets prone to hotspots I have them keep either Duoxo Calm gel or a steroid /gentamicin spray on hand.
Thanks for the tips! My boy is walking around the house looking like Friar Tuck with his bald/shaved head right about now.
