OTTB by Berdardini--Good?

I am checking out this guy for an eventer or jumper. He has had 25 starts mostly on turf.

I am interested to know what others think of these bloodlines.

lovely bloodlines, would make a very good eventer. the only thing i can think of is that he might be a little spirited. bernardini has AP indy’s athleticism but tends to make very confident horses. touch gold is one of the better deputy minister sons for sport, if you have to have DM in the pedigree, but also tends to have horses that can be quite spirited. same goes for broad bush.

i love seeing naskra on the dam side. naskra had several offspring at the track near where i grew up and they could really move - tended to be springy and elastic.

Wow, is Saketini a sporthorse stallion? That would be a really nice option out there … one with AP Indy lines. I have an AP Indy baby (through Jump Start). She’s very sweet, very athletic and very attractive. I have always liked the way the Bernadini babies look!

they are lookers, just be sure the temperament is suitable. Some good, some not so good from what I have seen.

Who is offering him for sale?. Looks he had a decent record at the track ending just last Nov.

Couple other on here little further back have a reputation for producing some…attitude. You’ll need to see the horse, How he handles things and try to speak with those that handled him regularly. Or at least somebody who knows him that isn’t trying to sell him. Track performance doesn’t always translate to tractability.

He is gorgeous, and congrats on the foal

A lady got him off the track to bring him a long then had a life altering situation and has to sell. He is lightly restarted. Someone on FB asked if he was “kid safe” and she said, “yes.”

He is close by, looks handsome so I thought he was worth a look.

Oh, that baby is adorable! She’s already got the nice neck

Certainly worth a look and sounds like you can actually see him under saddle, which is a huge help sorting through recently off the track TB. Not going to be polished but you can certainly evaluate attitude and trainability. Although, we probably all would agree the kid safe claim might be a bit of puffing at this point.

OP, I really like Rediscover’s page.

I’m not Bernardini’s biggest fan, but… he is a GOOD looking horse. He is possibly one of the best built thoroughbreds standing anywhere in the world. But I think he can put a questionable work ethic into some of his offspring, which does not make much sense to me, because his pedigree is full of consistently good temperaments and he is a sensible horse himself. If you have a good one, they are darn good. If not, they are frustrating as heck.

The female family on this guy is just wonderful. This is just my personal opinion, but a family that can consistently churn out stakes winners is going to be more likely to put out a classy horse for any discipline. Then you add in the fact that it’s speckled with such good sporthorse sires. Touch Gold is just a nice looking and moving horse. I’ve always been a fan of Deputy Minister for eventing. Broad Brush may be the best TB sire of jumpers to come out of the US in recent history.

Going to disagree with the above on the topside as far as temperament goes. Some of the Slews, the Mr Ps and the Bids garnered a reputation for challenging temperaments. Since all three are on here, it wouldn’t be a total shocker if some of Bs also showed some attitude. Obviously this dilutes as it slips back on the chart and you always have to look at the horse in front of you.

I really like the damside and she raises the youngun and creates whatever attitude it ends up with. There’s quite a few notably good tempered horses on there that aren’t too closely related. Nice to see Ack Ack, and Buckpasser.

As a big fan of Broad Brush, I have to correct the remark about Broad Brush’s sire, Ack Ack being from Argentina. He is as American as can be and foaled in Kentucky; Ack Ack was bred by Harry Guggenheim, trained by Charlie Whittingham and ended up being owned by actress Greer Garson. His sire line includes Domino, a champion who is known for having passed on soundness and toughness. Ack Ack was a champion several times over and still holds a track record at Del Mar. There are two races named after him: the Ack Ack Handicap at Churchill Downs and the Ack Ack Handicap at Hollywood Park. He was unusual for winning at different distances. Ack Ack is included among the top 100 race horses of the 20th century in a ranking by The Blood Horse, Inc.

Here is a very nice article in the L.A. Times about Ack Ack which really pays tribute to this wonderful horse.

Having said all of that, I agree with findeight that the damside is nice with that infusion of Broad Brush, who brings stamina, toughness and good jumping ability.

There is a Settle Slew at our farm. Super athletic. Went BN within her first year of arriving and placed well.
