I’ll check with Kathy’s sister… I doubt they would be at all opposed to a donation going to a horsey group. (Kathy’s sister also rides.)
I would guess that the hospice was named as the charity just because people kept asking them who to send money to, and that was the first thing that came to mind. 
I like the half-and-half idea… there’s a really well-known rescue in CA, the name of which escapes me at the moment. California Clique?
