Oh what awesome news! I know lots of men that can’t resist the smell of bacon, I’m sure Abby won’t be able to either!!
So happy for you! Maybe in addition to your grilling, now is the time to set up a large trap stuffed with delicious food and game cams on it?
I’m so encouraged that she’s been close enough that people have seen her and hope your community keeps their eyes open.
Come on Abby, your people want you home so bad!!!
And an entire online community of strangers!
@going_gray fingers crossed for you, polishing my lucky horseshoe, looking for four leaf clovers and any other good ju-ju I can send your way.
Your update was the first post when I opened this thread today.
I actually gasped and said ‘oh my god!’
This is wonderful news. Hoping next update is ‘she’s home’
That is wonderful news!! I hope bacon proves to be the irresistible draw needed and Abby is home soon.
I do agree with the suggestion of a large live animal trap in the sighted area as well.
Go home Abby!!!
The first time I used a live animal trap to capture my lost spooky kitty at the time (like the traps in the videos that someone linked above) I thought “this is never going to work, she is never ever going into that thing”.
It not only worked, it worked 10 minutes after we left the area! She must have been hanging around in hiding while we set it up, to be into it that fast! Just too feral and spooked to come to us. She was so hungry and frightened and disoriented, she must have seen the food and thought ‘oh thank goodness there is real food here’.
The trail cam is important to get to them as soon as possible after they are in the trap.
A couple of years later the same kitty went missing again. This time we knew what to do – went straight to the previous area and set out the trap. The same type of trap that went “bang!” and trapped her the last time - again I thought “don’t think she will go in but let’s try”. She went straight into it again, almost faster once we were out of sight. Maybe she wanted to be caught? Dunno if she could understand that. Maybe she just remember that she got the food last time.
Please come home Abby!
Would it help to ask the people around the place where she was sighted to start putting out food and maybe a bed to start to re-domesticate her? She might stay in one place and also start to associate people with food and shelter.
Abby’s home! We have found her! We are exhausted but so overjoyed!
We got a phone call around 1:30 from someone who was looking at her under his trailer. (He read her dog tag - red ID tag in shape of bone.)
We had just started back home when the call came in. She was nowhere near where she had been seen yesterday. And where we had been grilling bacon this morning!
We got ourselves oriented with gps and arrived to just see her dart out from the trailer and head up a hill. Dan took off with our other dog and I grabbed the package of raw bacon in my hand.
She was moving faster than we were. Dan got up the hill before I did. And I saw him on the ground and I thought he had twisted his ankle.
No, Abby had jumped out of the side of the woods on top of Dan. Dan, Abby, and Nikki were in a heap. She was jumping all over him and crying. Then jumping all over me giving me kisses! And crying.
We got a leash on her and got her into our truck and then gave the couple who had called us lots of hugs! They were so happy to be able to help us!
She had been hunkered down several nights under the trailer and eating cat food. She is really thin! Really thin!
How do you feed a starving dog? We have given her a small amount of kibble but not much. I am going to give her some chicken boiled with rice, small amounts. Will call vet tomorrow!
Prayers have been answered! Your thoughts, ideas, jingles have bolstered me up! So grateful! So grateful!
Will send pictures soon too! No tears tonight!
Tears right here, and I don’t even know you!
So glad she’s home!
Best news of the day!!! So happy she is home.
Such great news, glad she is home!
!!!Happy tears!!!
Hallelujah! I’m so happy for you!
Thank God for your tireless efforts and that shiny red dog tag! I hope she vets up okay, other than being thin!
Thrilled for you and Abby! I’ve been following every day for your happy ending. So glad it was today
Yayyyy!! I’ve been silently following and checked in from the barn today hoping to read this.
That’s awesome! I’ll bet she’s happy to be home! Your persistence paid off. Some people don’t put the effort in. You guys did everything and got her home. I’m absolutely thrilled your family is all together again.
Yay! This is the post I’ve been waiting to see! I am so happy for all of you!
