Our First Sprinter!

Harley and I went to our very first Sprinter yesterday. The first run after my friend released her, she stopped running and was a bit confused. I started jumping up and down and she finally saw me and came blasting down the track. She caught on fast and loved her second and third run and ran straight towards me each time.

I hope to go back in a month or so and perhaps get enough points for her first title. There were over 100 dogs that ran that day and another 100 dogs today. It was great seeing all of the different breeds! Something new and fun besides horse showing!

That looks fun. I have one dog I think would be great at that, but two others that might sort of amble my way, stop to pee a few times and go hunting.

I assume like Barn Hunt - stopping to pee is an automatic DQ?

I was so surprised she didn’t chase the lure as shes very visual and loves to run, but she just seemed to lock eyes with me and came running. It was hard for her to hear me as it was so loud with all the dogs barking/distractions, but once she learned I was at the end, she was very confident and seemed to really enjoy it. She was for sure the heaviest dog there  but her times for the 2nd and 3rd run were pretty good and she was on par with most of the other dogs. There was a greyhound that ran in just over 7 seconds (almost 50km/hr)!

I actually don’t really know the rules. I know if you cross the timer line, you don’t get a qualifying run, and therefore no points or ribbon. I suppose of they stop to pee, it would just kill your time and you would get less points at the end. I think as long as you don’t interfere with them running and cross any of the timing lines, all is good. I kinda liked this one as I never did any training and it was something that I could do with her and she has a great prey drive so it was up her alley as well. I would love to try agility or something else with her, but with my horses and farm, I just can’t seem to find the time for all the training needed.

In AKC Fast Cat, yes, Peeing on the course is an NQ. Even if they cross the finish line and then cross back and pee.

I think Sprinter is the Canadian equivalent of Fast CAT?

I’ve heard of Fast Cat but have not seen one around here. Is it a 100M straight run as well with a lure?

She’s lovely! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I might suggest that to a friend who does Agility training (used to compete, not so much now).
She has a BC & JRT who’d both ace Sprinting.
 If they came straight to her…

She should do it!! I saw so many breeds in shapes and sizes. I bet they would both kill it and love it!

I did look up Fast Cat from the AKC and it sounds like it is the same as the CKC Sprinter. Same rules, same running etc. I also looked up the fastest times for Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs and was happy to see my girl would have come in about 19th place of the fastest Swissys in the US. Her fastest run was 34.1km which is about 21.2mph

My greyhound recently went to her first Fast CAT a couple weeks ago. She never raced or even trained to race. But she found her calling! I have her entered in another one where she will earn her first title (unless she decides not to run😉).

She looks so happy!!! Its so much fun watching our pups do something they love <3 Was there a professional photographer there to get these great shots? The only bummer thing with the venue I go to is no professionals allowed there. So I have to rely on strangers to video for me. You have some great shots either way. I love her concentration! Good luck with her title! I hope to get a title on her next race as well (Novice Sprinter), but of course it depends on if she want to run ha ha! How many points do you need for her first title for Fast Cat? For a Sprinter, they need 150 points for their NS, then 500 for their next title. I got just over 100 at her first race, but it seems like the first title is a bit easier to get then the other titles. They get you hooked lol!

There was a greyhound at the Sprinter I went to and boy did they love it as well! They completed the 3 runs all in just over 7 seconds, which worked out to be over 50km/hr. Zoom!!

Yes, they had a professional photographer. Most of the trials do from what I can tell.

The point system for titles seems to be the same, she needs 150 for her BCAT and then 500 for DCAT. I do not remember how many points and names for the titles after those.

She ran her first run in 5.84 seconds and her second in 5.69 seconds. That comes out to 35.02 mph and 35.95 mph. The mph is used at the points towards the titles. She is running both days for a total of 4 runs at her next trial. I just did one day at her first not knowing what to expect.
