Our horse failed vet check now ex potential buyer wants us to cover all her costs ...
My jaded side questions if this is just a way for my profession to find something they can knock…
Yes, not a very smart way.

You could come back with you will charge them for riding your horse, so much an hour, to make it worth your time to provide said horse for their entertainment, since they didn’t buy it.
Makes about as much sense.

I was referring to a 10 meter circle on concrete. Many horses are going to be 1/5 on this test at least one direction. The majority of lamenesses are front leg. So having a horse come up 1/5 on a vet check could be handy if said horse really does come up lame a short time after PPE. That’s my jaded side speaking. LOL
That said I have never done a PPE without finding something though that a prospective owner needs to weigh their options on. Thank goodness I don’t do horse work any more!

Wow. Just when I think I’ve heard all of the crazy out there…
I don’t think you are entitled to your expenses back when you travel to look at a car either…
No, and many reputable dealers will give you anything from 1 to 3 days to take a used car to a mechanic or dealer service for a “PPE” and they will take it back but they ain’t paying for your check up, gas or lunch while you waited.

I want to go look at horses in Greece. I’m positive that there are some lovely prospects there.

That’s what I was thinking…and certainly there is a horse that won’t pass the soundness test on a 10 M circle on concrete…so we could get the whole trip paid for!

Sweet deal.

I like the ideas of having the OP counter charge the Entitled One for the ‘pony rides’ she had on her horse, having not bought it. Like 140.00 a ride sounds specific. Then, telling EO that she must have lamed her horse, because the horse wasn’t lame prior to her riding it, so she can pay for the vet fees for the diagnostics, now that the horse has become lame.

Also, maybe the OP has to take the horse to Rood and Riddle for diagnostics and extensive exploratory surgery and/or rehab - she will have to stay in an upscals hotel while the horse is there, for weeks I am sure, plus, her meals and all, because this PERSON came and rode her horse and swears to the court its now lame!!

Of course, if she wanted to just forget it all, perhaps the OP would be willing to take a reduction in the amount now owed to HER, but honestly, how can you put a price on a lame horse?

I venture that most horses show some sign of lameness on a small circle on ashphalt…a 2 out of 5 might not sound so bad, really, unless you are looking ahead to Rolex or Spruce International.

I sold an eventer once who was very mildly off on the concrete circle - he went on to Advanced and retired sound…the party made a judgement.

If a horse has large feet, this will put pressure on the joints and that is all it takes. Do it extensively, and the horse can pop a splint.

There are vets around who will not stick their necks out for anyone or anything and they become well known for being able to find some little thing wrong with every horse, and will not commit to ‘sound for purposes the horse is going to be used for’.

I agree with ALL the posters, not your responsibility.

Any updates, OP?

One of three things is going on here:

 1. She is bat doodoo crazy
 2. She has never purchased a horse before and doesn’t realize she was responsible for the PPE costs
 3. She is trying to make a quick buck

I go for 1 and 3 combined as that’s more entertaining.

I dunno, I’d vote for #1 and #2. Although I can’t really see any circumstances in which all three didn’t apply, by default…

Oh goody. Another entitled nutjob has entered the horseworld.

If I were a horse, and I were made to trot on a hard surface in the heat in a small circle, you bet your ass I’d be lame! I would be doing anything to get out of that stupid ordeal! Humans.

As an update speacialist has come our horse does have a few minor things on X-rays but nothing radical … Have spoken to lawyer who specialises in equine matters she was gob smacked couldn’t believe it, agrees she has no leg to stand on and is now helping us out to deal with the “Madame” . Unfortunately she is still going to go through the “process” we emailed her , keeping it brief, factual and neutral advising her that we deny all her ridiculous accusations , have not mislead her and will not be Reimbursing her . She is to contact our lawyer as we will not be engaging in communication with her however she’s now saying she is going to the tribunal and we will be served court papers in which we have to respond !. So hard not to say anything else as we are not happy!!!

What kind of insurance do you carry. Have you contacted them? If not, you might want to do so.

G.

Hopefully she is still trying to bluff you. Please I update with what you can when you can. I understand that you will not be able to for a while at least.

I wonder how often ex-prospective buyer pulls this stunt? I bet fairly often.

I’m sorry you are going through this, but I think you are handling it well. And I know how hard it can be to bite one’s tongue - but keep it up! Update us with all the gory details if and when you can safely do so.

Let your attorney handle this, sit back and watch the fireworks.
Hopefully they will not only rule in your favor, but have her pay you for your troubles.

This really seems to fall into the really stupid and absurd, nothing you can do but try to disengage best you can from such people.

If I was the judge I would laugh her out of the courtroom then say “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out”
Hence why I am not a judge LOL.
I have never even done a PPE on a horse. I have don’t it on a car and I paid for it with no complaints. This woman in a loon.
