We have tried two different flea treatments, but are finding it impossible to keep our cat flea-free. We comb him every night and there are always fleas.
What flea treatment do you use that actually works?

I don’t know nothin about nothin, but what have you tried? Might help people who know stuff point you in the right direction
I keep a Seresto collar on my one barn cat that lives in the house and visits the barn. No fleas so far, but I’m really unsure how many we really have here. But maybe something to try if you haven’t already!
NO … I hate fleas & so do my cats … can’t live with fleas ![B]
Revolution for cats ~ applied once a month = every thirty days … works for my barn cats … they are out and about during the day but inside tack rooms at night.
I second Revolution for the barn cats. I hate fleas and don’t want my animals/barn/property infested.
I find that Frontline is no longer working in a lot of areas, particularly the south. A seresto collar is a great idea. Revolution works great, too. Our reps from different companies remind us that when they call something a monthly flea/tick prevention, they really mean 4 weeks - 28 days. When I lived in Jersey, I used Frontline (for the ticks) every 3 weeks. That last week seems to be ineffective. If you can pill your cat, Comfortis also works really well.
Seresto collar and Advantage multi for the ticks. They have a rebate going on right now if you buy them together. Revolution works but if you have serious infestation I find it wears off quickly. My vet does not recommend Comfortis- we’ve seen several bad side effects from it. Plus, it’s nearly impossible to pill a cat!
I don’t know why but none of my dogs and cats have ever had fleas. I saw a program on TV stating that fleas don’t like the smell of horses that is why anyone working around horses did not get the plague. Two vets assured me that was a fallacy. One vet thought that perhaps because my farm is so isolated I never had an infestation.
My dog did get a BravEcto (/fluralaner)pill but mainly for the ticks. The pill is supposed to be good for 80 days.
We don’t have heartworms around here, so I never see Revolution for sale. It’s worth a shot.
I mainly want him to be flea-free because I would like for him to be in the house more. He’s slowly figuring out that our geriatric dogs pose no threat and despite his rough life as a stray before we took him in, he’s very affectionate.
Revolution is RX, so you’d have to get it from your vet. The Seresto collars are OTC, though.

We don’t get fleas either; or, at least, very rarely. I think it has more to do with environment than anything else. My parents & brother live two hours from me - they deal with fleas, we deal with ticks. They never see ticks, and my brother is an avid hunter, so he would see them if they were there. And only 2 hours away… weird.
Frontline has worked fine for us, but then again…as I said…no fleas anyway. But we use it for ticks and just in case against fleas.
Boric acid is your friend. Simply sprinkle into your carpets
And broom it in. Keep the pets out for a few hours until the powder gets deep down into the carpet fibers.
It really works. It lasts a long time.
Hope this helps.
