Outdoor stair treads for dogs

Hi all, looking for suggestions for traction grips to put on my wooden deck stairs to help my old dog get traction. Last year I used traction tape. It worked really well, made it through the winter, but is peeling off now. I got 3 seasons out of it but ideally I’d like something permanent. I’ve seen aluminum strips but they look a bit like a cheese grater and I wonder if they might be painful for dogs and human bare feet.

Anyone have suggestions? I live in a climate that is snowy/icy for about 5 months.

Though it is only semi-permanent, what I like about the tape is that it also wears down their nails a bit.

How about these?

I took an outdoor runner carpet mat, cut it into stair-depth chunks, and put it on the stairs. It works really well. I did it last fall and seems to be still going strong. I rarely even have to adjust them back onto the centre of the stair (I literally just flopped it down on each stair, did not affix in any way). Before this fix my senior guy slipped on the deck stairs once when going down and then became terrified of them. I did it as a quick fix until I had time to do something more permanent, but it worked so well I just left it.

I just keep replacing the traction tape. It does help and is a PITA, but I’m not a fan of the aluminum ones.

I keep saying I’m going to cover the steps in fake turf for grip, but that might be tacky.

Roofing shingles work well for this.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I have a few options to look into.
