My tack room has been stripped to the studs and my electrician is coming to rewire it. I don’t know exactly how I’m going to arrange the room yet but I need to tell him roughly how high to make the outlets. Is there any reason to not have them at the normal height you typically see in homes, like knee high? He’ll be putting multiple ones per wall.
Wherever makes sense for you so long as it’s to code. I’d want more counter height vs lower. Add more than you think you need.
Agree with higher than lower.
My most-used outlets in the barn are about chesthigh for 5’2" me.
Only ones higher are the ones above the stalls I use to plug in heated buckets. Those are at the 8’ top of stall fronts.
Assuming you know GFI is not opitoonal.
Will you have any counter tops? If yes, then I’d put some at counter top height above the counter top. If no, then standard knee height. Maybe I’m not being creative enough but I have no idea what you’d plug in at counter top height that wouldn’t have to also sit on a counter/shelf. 🤷
When I built my barn I had all the outlets installed at 4 feet rather than the normal 16 inches fro the floor as in houses, Partly because one section was designed as a workshop, and partly because I am old and bending over isn’t easy. I am happy with the 4 foot outlets in my tack room.
I have 24 inch stud walls and there is an outlet every 48 inches. There are places I wish I had outlets every 24 inches, particularly in the tack room.
Things that are plugged into my tack room outlets are: refrigerator, washing machine, dryer on its own 240V outlet, charger for the clippers, a television, two chargers for my arena video camera setup, an electric kettle, a microwave oven, a wifi extender, a lamp, a charger fir my wireless horse trailer camera, a clock/temperature/humidity display, and half of these I failed to anticipate. I need more outlets.
Yep, I agree with the rest. Higher is better, especially if you have countertops or maybe a desk against a wall. No need to make them so low.
Same here. 4’ off the floor. It is MUCH more convenient. I actully had to argue with the contractor to get it that way.
Low makes sense in houses where you are going to plug in a lamp and want the plug out of sight. Higher makes sense in the tack room all day long. While you want have counters all over the place, plugging in a shop vac to clean the room is just easier if the plug is higher on the wall.
