Outriding at KY3day

Has anyone ever done this? I saw the position on the volunteer website and it’s always been on my bucket list but I’ve also been told it’s only for hunt club members.

Ooohh! Bumping since I’m interested too. It’s been a bucket list item as well and I have the perfect guy for it - he’d love nothing better than standing around all day, and bonus, he’s experienced (oops) in catching stray horses.

Never at KY, but I have done it at Fair Hill International (the last years before it became the Maryland 5 star).

What an experience that would be at KY. You would need a very chill horse!

Bumping to make it happen.

There was a guy posting on Facebook looking for volunteers for this not long ago,
Might be worth searching there.

You can sign up for the wait list via eventingvolunteers.com-- if it’s anything like Fair Hill/MD having been a past volunteer helps a lot.

He was looking for volunteers for everything although it looks like most of the spots, including outriding, are full with a waitlist

I outrode last year. I don’t think I will do it this year, just because I don’t have the time.

I believe it will always say outriding spots are full. You need to contact the ladies who organize it so they can discuss your experience. You and your horse need to be fit. It is a LONG day and even the quietest horses will be amped up.

Sad. My local hunt has a ~$2k yearly membership so I don’t see that happening for me. Hunts are a lot of fun though, do you have any interest in joining one?

I applied for years for KY outriding and never heard anything. I had two great horses for it too!

Yeah, my guy would lose his ever loving mind!
