Does anyone have any experience with this coat. The sales lady said it was VERY thick so now I’m afraid it will be too warm (if that’s possible…). It’s a 20 oz. melton, and I ride in 9.5 oz in the summer but that means nothing to me…
I have one as a backup or for guests.
Has held up and it is nice and warm. I wear a canary vest under it.
Don’t know how cold it gets where you are but I’ve worn it when it was in the 20’s and was ok. I’m a weenie about the cold.
Hope that helps.
That helps, thanks. Most of our hunting is in the 20’s-low 30’s.
Is it sized normally or should I size up or down?
Loves it!
Mrs. Hotspur has an Ovation Melton and it keeps her toasty warm even on our cold winter hunts.
I didn’t know the answer so I went through all my coats. (how did I get so many???)
Looks like they run a little small. Oh - and depending on your height you’ll want to go with a regular or long cut. You may want to go with a larger size and longer cut - you can always have it altered a little.
The only thing I don’t like about the coat are the buttons - they are decorated with a fox’s head (mask). That’s a no no but your hunt may not care, the attire police may not notice, and they’re easy to replace anyway. So no biggie.
Oh - Ovation also makes a canary vest. Don’t know if you’re interested in that or not.
Hope that helps.
Melton is a kind of napped, woven wool cloth from Melton Mowbray Leics. - not a coat!
Very thick - nice coat…
I just had the ideal opportunity to try it out. Wore it to Middleburg Christmas Parade in the wet snow and was toasty at least above my thighs. It is a bit bulky but was great and will definitely think about adding colors to it so I can stay warm at home as well.
