Over 100 horses found starving on farm in Orange County Virginia

More than 100 horses were found dying or already dead yesterday on a farm in Somerset, in Orange County VA. Some of the dead animals were found locked in stalls with no food or water.

Central Virginia Horse Rescue is working today to organize the removal of the horses to foster homes and into care. Some of the horses will undoubtedly have to be euthanized as they are beyond saving. Please consider donating some money to the rescue, or at least send prayers for the safe landing of these poor horses.

The farm, Peaceable Farm, is listed as a 501.c3 tax exempt non-profit organization set up as such “for the welfare of animals”. They have reportedly received more than 1 million dollars in donations.

I have seen photos from the site and they are truly sickening.

their # is 45-1258469

I cant remember the site that shows all information reported

2013 info can’t find 2014 or 2015

This “rescue” took in over one million dollars of donations.

There are over 100 horses, and I too saw the photos before they were taken down. I have never seen anything so horrific in my life. There are also dogs locked in trailers and cars, and many dozens of cats - some dead dogs and cats but I don’t know who is helping with the small animals; perhaps contact the Orange County Humane Society.

Hope’s Legacy is also assisting with these horses - they have already taken 6 in and will be taking in more.

They and Central could definitely use our help.

Saddlery Liquidators, at both locations, is establishing drop off points for small animal and large animal supplies.

Helping these animals is going to require enormous resources; even if the only solution is humane euthanasia.

Please help.

Oh. Jeez.

Thank you for the contact info.

I find it interesting that there is a physical address in MD. Then, a PO box in Va.

The horses are dead in Orange, VA.

NICE

She’s got a history.

I was wondering…

I was actually looking to see if it was the lady that had Fern Leigh Foundation. I tried some Throughdales in Orange (years ago) that she claimed she started this nice cross. VERY pricey… then found out she was a fraud

different person.

I think they used to be located at a farm in Maryland.

That is what I thought too

I’m curious… for those that know about 503c

Why is the only reports online from 2013?

Please help.[/QUOTE] JSwan, what is the best way to help? Where to send the money?

JSwan, do you know the owners of this place and how this happened?

Just came on to post this.

Truly heartbreaking. I wish I could help foster, but the only field I have where I would be able to quarantine does not have a shelter. I’ll send a dribble to CVHR, and if anyone has any supplies to donate I’d be glad to help organize something/transport/whatever.

There is a link in the original post to donate to CVHR.
I am not affiliated with them.

I have a friend who knows this woman of Peaceable Farm and went to school with her many years ago. My friend was shocked when this story came out, but also not entirely surprised. My friend had never been to the farm in Somerset so she was not aware of the conditions there.

Very sad and scary that a rescue would do this.

Most of the animals they show in the news video are not as bad as you would think. Clearly the photos (that are not up any longer?) are much worse.

CVHR and Hope’s Legacy seem to be taking the lead on the horses.

Orange County Shelter is getting the dogs and cats, it seems. From my FB feed:
“Just got off of the phone with Christina at the Orange Animal Shelter. There are many many cats and dogs involved in the animal cruelty case - not just horses! They urgently need donations of the following items:
Canned cat food
Cat litter
Bleach
Newspapers
Linens
They also need cat fosters desperately. She said the cats they have dealt with so far are NOT feral!
This is a truly urgent situation - please help if you can!!!
Applebee’s Pantops can serve as a drop-off location for donations”

Charlottesville Vet Hospital is also serving as a donation drop-off point.

How horrible.

No info about this situation yet on the Orange County Humane Society website or FB page. If anyone finds out, please post here and in the Menagerie forum.

I am so sick of this sh!t. When will it stop?

How does a situation get so out of control before someone notices? I just dont get it.

Horrific ! Jingles for the survivors !

HORRIFIC !

Jingles for the survivors ~

Oh, God. How horrible! Those poor animals. It makes me feel both ill and fighting mad. There’s a special place in hell for people like these.
