Hello all! I am moving from Johnson City, Tennessee to Ocala, FL and looking for recommendations for overnight horse boarding somewhere around that I-26/I-95 junction or nearer to the Savannah side. To the best of my google skills, I’m not coming up with anything, so I wanted to reach out to others who might know the area better. It’s a 9 hour trip, and normally I would just travel straight with my mare, but my (older) parents will be following me in their vehicle, so breaking it up into a two day trip would decrease stress on everyone significantly. Any input would be greatly appreciated - thank you in advance!
Would it be possible to move your horse down there first and then come back and then drive with your parents?
No - I’m moving my mare to my property down there, so there wouldn’t be anyone to keep an eye on her if I came back to get my parents and it would still leave me with the two car situation. Thank you for the suggestion though!
Not a lot of barns advertise layover boarding if they’re not in a high-volume area with people constantly coming in for short stays for shows (HITS Ocala, WEF, etc.) I’d just contact regular boarding barns in the area and ask if they’d take you for an evening.
Don’t know the area, but at our local county fair grounds, one can overnight with horses using the stabling for the 4-H fair --clearly not during shows or fair week, but any other time. Second idea is contact local vets . . .they might know someone.
Is there no one you know who might like a short road trip and be able to drive your parents car? That would be a lot easier and then you can pay their trip home?
Thanks everyone! I called a boarding barn near that area and they said they’d be willing to rent out a stall for the night. I appreciate y’alls input!
