Oxy Clean on Equiline, CT, etc

Hi all,

I’ve searched the thread(s) containing the word “oxy clean” and gotten some answers, but none specific to Equiline tan show breeches, CT tan breeches, and whites.

These are specifically the Ash and regular CT breeches with the sticky grip.

I’m crazy about cleaning/appearance, so I’d love to know if others have soaked their show breeches in oxy clean (and for how long, etc.). I really don’t want to experiment on $400 breeches!

Thanks in advance!

I soak my breeches and shirts after every show (Struck, Samshield, CT, Equiline, Tailoreds, Animo etc). I fill my tub with hot water and as much OxyClean as I can manage and leave them to soak for 12-36 hours. (I don’t think I’ve ever done longer than that.) I try to stir them around every few hours. Wash and hang dry as normal after that.

Same!

Awesome - thank you so much! I was just too nervous to try on one pair, let alone the whole lot!

Does it take out the black line of boot polish (if you’ve had this on your breeches) and assuming it takes out the saddle seat stain fairly well?

I don’t soak, but I put a scoop of the powder in all my equine laundry. Hasn’t hurt anything so far, and has done a good job of getting out stains, though not all the boot polish on my dressage whites.

It definitely fades it. I’ve had better luck using the oxy spray to pretreat that and then sort of rubbing the fabric in on itself to scrub it out before letting it sit 15-30 minutes before washing.

I don"t know the answer but am having the same issue with my daughter’s Equiline breeches that she wore once for a show. They just didn’t come out very clean looking :frowning:

Yeah, I love mine but they do not wash well compared to other breeches I have. I’ve found that I have to wash them not inside-out in hot water (hang dry) to get most stains out. I think I’m going to try Scotch-Guarding them next.

I think my oxyclean jar says not to use it on spandex etc and stretch breeches definitely have that in the fibre mix.

I mean, most jeans have spandex in the mix. Maybe I wouldn’t use it on spandex bike shorts, but I’m not too worried about a pair of breeches.

Beware: I guess I once suggested a barn friend soak her barn clothes in Oxyclean.

I commented they needed a new shirt because theirs had little holes all over it. I was informed that happened after my suggestion to soak in oxyclean!?!

The Oxiclean killed it!!??!! It was just a cotton type t-shirt. Just be very careful and don’t soak anything more than 30 minutes.

I find Gain detergent works best on horse stuff. With oxyclean added as needed. In with the wash. No presoak…

I think the spandex would weaken over time, they would bag out earlier.

In desperation I soaked a collection of sunshirts whose bad smell had been exacerbated by using one of the detergents that’s supposed to help un-stink technical fabrics in an Oxyclean solution for a few hours. It removed the stink. I have now gone back to putting some Oxyclean in the bottom of the machine with the loads that include the barn clothes. I did this for years and then, at one point, found a detergent that worked on its own. I can no longer get that detergent, but hadn’t gone back to the Oxyclean for some reason.

Over the years I’ve tried a few of the technical fabric detergents and other detergents recommended here. None of them have worked and one actually enhanced the stink as noted above. The culprit is probably our water which is pretty hard. Persil worked in the sense that its scent was so strong that it blocked anything else; however, it also made me sneeze violently.

Try adding about 3-4 ounces of Odoban disinfectant to the bleach dispenser of your washing machine. Works well to disinfect clothes/towels/sheets.

Also kills COVID. The company announced recently but I figured it did and have been using it. Lysol disinfectant was impossible to find. I had Odoban. I put 2 ounces in a 32 ounce spray bottle with water. Spray the bottom of shoes and car/door mats.

I usually get the Lavender scent. Lowe’s, Home Depot and Chewy sells it. About $12-$13/gallon.

I spray my Samshields with Spray and Wash, then apply Oxyclean power/paste do the stains and rub into the fabric, then throw a scoop of Oxy in the wash. Maybe overkill, but is pretty effective and has never damaged anything.

And thank god for that!

Just to confirm, you can wash Equiline breeches in hot water? They won’t shrink?

Mine haven’t! As long as you hang to dry, I think it’s fine.
