Oxytocin protocol instead of regumate

Hello!

My vet recommended I try the oxytocin protocol with my 6yr old OTTB mare. My boarding barn prefers to do regumate into feed instead of syringing (and I don’t blame them at ALL) and it doesn’t seem like it’s absorbing well this way. She has pretty big dramatic heats–screaming, pacing for friends, sometimes goes off her feed and acts a little colicky.

I could put her back on the injectable compounded version, but I was having trouble with the latest version of that I had in the fall from Wedgewood and I am open to new ideas.

Has anyone tried the oxytocin protocol? How did it work? The vet warned me that depending on where she is in her cycle right now, she might get a little crampy the first few days. We’re doing injections for 29 days and that should hold her for several months, at least.

This mare will never be bred (she has IMMK and also some of the worst feet I’ve ever seen, no one needs these genes going to another generation) and I’d consider spaying her in the future, but she’s had lots of soundness issues and before I invest money in spaying, she’s gotta prove to me that she can stay sound for riding to justify that cost.

Thanks!
