Can anyone tell me what his offspring are like, particularly in the temperament department? I am looking at one as a dressage prospect. My only other experience with a Pablo baby was a horse who was super talented, but quite quirky so I was wondering if this temperament was typical of Pablo offspring or not.
Yes, superb pro rides. Extremely talented and athletic. Specialized jumper breeding. For serious competitors who want a similarly focused partner. Not for the average ammie.
When I was considering breeding my mare, I got to visit an approved Pablo son, Paparazzo. At his stallion performance test he received scores for his Temperament, Character, Constitution and Willingness to Work from 9.0 to 10. He has a wonderful disposition and certainly passes it on to his offspring.
I know one that seems born broke. Very easy going and sweet. I am not sure if it was one parent or the other or both.
HmmI have had the opposite experience with the Papparazzo’s I have worked with.
I bred to him once and mine is coma quiet. He is now in a top hunter barn where everyone raves about how quiet and good minded he is.
Mroades, I did end up breeding my somewhat “hot” mare to Paparazzo and the resulting filly was one of the “born broke” ones, very ammie friendly, has never bucked, spooked or done anything stupid. I know of others that are similar, but that is just my experience with a limited number…

She is presently in hunter training and they also comment on her calmness and willing nature. I know of others that are similar.
I had a Pablo stallion son that was the was the easiest young horse of any gender I have ever dealt with. I have a son of his out of a mare line known for being quirky who has been equally easy. I’m sold on the temperament.
I have had both Pablo and Paparazzo babies and have found them both to be very easy and well behaved. I’m an ammy rider and bring along my own babies and these were both very willing and uncomplicated.
Sara, I have a 7 year old Pablo mare out of a Gold Luck-Weltmeyer-Brentano II mare who was shown extensively as a young horse in hand and they also under saddle. She was very easy, not quirky, although she is “hot to the aids”, so not for the average amateur who cannot control the firmness of their aids. But as far as going out and showing, she was super. Although ridden by pros at shows, she was ridden by good amateurs just fine as well.

Her page on my website – if you click the video link you can see lots of videos of her as a 4 year old under saddle. She’s also been a super producer.
I have one Phoebe and she is a love muffin. A bit herd bound but easy to deal.
Interesting. I have a coming 3yr old in my barn, and have worked with 3 others (Paparrazzo’s) None of them have been easy or ammie friendly. Must have gotten all the ones that couldnt overcome the mare’s temperaments???
I am glad to hear others have had different experiences!
My husband started two for a client. I loved them both so much I tried to buy them both. Ended up with one and he is a sweetheart! Forward, but very sensible and trainable.
I loved my Pablo colt. He was fantastic to handle from day 1!! He led to/from the field pushing a stroller/wagon, loaded, bathed etc like he had done it his whole life. From what I am told he is the same way at his new home. He is going to be started under saddle later this year, but I am pretty sure he will continue on the way he is heading.
Not that I advocate leading youngsters this way as I am aware of what could have happened.
I have worked with a few Pablo’s and they were all nice.
I have a Pablo filly out of my Diamond Hit mare who is the sweetest, easiest thing in the world. The mother has a great temperament as well, but her filly born the following year (by a different stallion) is not nearly as easy as the Pablo.
I sold my Pablo/Mannhattan filly to an Olympian medalist who started her under saddle with no problems and he is now preparing her for the young horse series. She was out of a mare who is quite spicy and opinionated, but the filly’s personality is rather sweet.
I cant say enough good things about Pablo offspring. I have two, and specifically searched for a second Pablo because I love the first so much. Great movement, jump and temperaments, big winners in the (hunter) show ring, and fun to ride out at home. I am a weekend ammie, and although both of my horses are kept in a professional program, they are both absolutely amateur-friendly, and they are chestnut mares, no less!
I had a Pablo / TB mare in training for a while. Lovely mover, athletic and sweet. Very nice mare. A joy to ride except that she was EXTREMELY spooky.
