Packaging that horsey smell?

My grandma is quite old, but loves horses. It’s been a long time since she’s had one, but she’s stuck in a nursing home now and I want to take her back to that place. I would love to bring my own horse to her nursing home, but we live on the other side of the country.

I was thinking about putting a small piece of leather and some horse hair in a small envelope. We’re packing a little care package for her and I don’t know what would best transmit that ‘horsey’ scent. Any ideas?

how about a cooler that had been on a horse, she could use it as comforter?

It could be specialized with maybe Greatest Grand Mother or My Heart is with my Horse

When one my daughters was working away from horses I got her a Baker 5A afghan, which she still has it

That’s an interesting idea! How big are they? She is a bit fastidious, so it might be better to have something small she can open. I was thinking about a small decorative horse statue in with some small items to bring her back to the ranch of her younger years, without spreading any dander about that might upset the nursing home workers. .

an “Award Cooler” is 84" x 90"

the afghan measures 50" wide x 70" long but it says Horse all over it

Many years ago, I did this for my grandmother and she loved it! To be honest, she might have loved the idea of it more than the actual smells, which didn’t hold up for super long, but my very un-senitmental grandmother (who owned horses for 70+ years) still had it in her nightstand when she died a few years later.

I used one of those pill organizer things older folks are all too familiar with (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Weekly-Pill-Organizer-Container-Medication/dp/B074PWMWFT) and put a different horse smell in each day: hay, grain, a clipping from a smelly old horse blanket, leather, etc. The one that was strongest and took her back the most was actually some freshly clipped hoof trimmings - it’s such a unique and distinctive smell that you don’t find anywhere else, and it was such a strong smell it was easy to identify - I think elderly often have a poorer sense of smell with age.

Can she have candles in her nursing home? Grey Horse Candles makes many options, all of which relate to some sort of horse smell. I’ve seen them in person (and sniffed them) and they are really nice!
