Packing List

I have looked at the forums, and I’ve made a list. And every time I look at it I think of a new thing to add. This is my first event where I’m far enough away that if I forget something (like a girth) I’m screwed! Please do me a favor, look at the list and let me know if I’m missing something stupid.

The barn is taking 13. . . so there will definitely be hands to help, will get more snacks but I’m unsure if I’ll be able to eat.

If you go to the USEA website- there is a booklet called something like The Starting Box Your guide to beginning eventing. At the end of that, there is a list of equipment (horse, rider, trailer, etc) that is a helpful checklist I think (haven’t looked at it in a while). There also used to be a stand alone document that was an equipment checklist for an event when you were stabling, but not sure if it is still around. While it was over-inclusive, when I first started eventing I would look it over to see if anything jumped out at me as something I should have but that was not on the trailer.
Good luck! If you forget something, odds are someone will lend you one :slight_smile:

Breastplate?
Spurs?
Dressage whip?
Jumping bat?
Tack cleaning equipment
Chair

I used to have a huge chart listing everything possible and then I could tailor it to a particular event. I will look for it.

oh chair!!! very good, dressage whip added, haven’t ever used a jumping bat with her.

Grab strap added as well, though it hangs with my jumping bridle so hopefully I’d remember it.

medical arm band?
ibuprofen
sunscreen

Beer!

Bug spray (for both you and the horse);
fans for stabling (and more bungees or hay string to tie it);
extension cords (for the fans!);
Do you need a stall guard? If so all the hardware for that-- or more hay string if your horse is not like mine and will respect it.
Hooks-- for buckets, tack, clothes, anything. The more hooks the merrier I’ve found.
A change of clothes for you-- extra shorts and shirt and sports bra and tennis shoes. It gets so hot and sweaty. And if you’re like me and forget the tennis shoes you look sorta ridiculous in tall boots in shorts. Oh and extra socks too (both in case it rains and your tall boots leak-- ask me how I know).
Take some pepto or other antacid just in case. I’m a walking pharmacy-- with beer too!
You mentioned stock tie, but don’t forget your stock pin!

A good camera-- since you have some many people going may they can take some photos!

I always like to take at least one roll of toilet paper. I may not remember to take it to the porta-potty with me, but at least I’ve got it with me somewhere! And it doubles great as Keenex!

Don’t mean to sound like your mother, but do remember to wear/pack WHITE underwear for your breeches and show shirt! I had a friend who forgot once and wore rosebud-print panties under her white breeches!

Maybe a spare pair of boot socks?

Shoes to change into between rides and on the way home?

Where’s Divine Comedy? Her list is crazy detailed. I think the one she sent to me when we went to Millbrook together a couple of years ago was a 6 page Google doc. I’m lucky if I can remember my pants half the time…

some ‘Please and Thank You’ s ~

[/B]GOOD LUCK !! and have a BLAST !!!

Beige underwear for white breeches as white underwear shows through.

Something else to wear. I have thin sweats to go over britches beforehand, and shorts or jeans for later. Clean tshirt. Sense of humor.

Number/pinney holder, if it’s an event that requires them!

Treats for horse
Sweat scraper
Is barn bringing manure forks and muck buckets?
Short hose

a small dry erase board and marker for it. I like to write down course walk times, ride times, times to get on to warm up (especially if I’m riding a horse that gets a pre dressage warm up ride). Also a good place to write down things that you wish you had for next time!

For one day and multi day shows (if there is an outlet by your stall) I like a plug in cooler. I buy a converter from a car plug to wall plug and your food and drinks can stay nice and cold. I have food allergies so generally can’t eat the food sold at shows, which makes how I can pack food and keep it cold very important!

Clean, dry underwear, bra, and socks. They should just live in your show bag. Speaking from experience there is little worse than getting back to the trailer after joining the three day eventing dive team, and realize that your choices are to stay in your wet undies or go commando.

A big T-shirt to put on over your show clothes to keep them clean while you do last-minute grooming (if you do this yourself).

Sanitary supplies even if it isn’t time for them in case the stress makes things kick in off-schedule! And someone else in your group may need them even if you don’t. (I’m obviously assuming you’re a female under a certain age!)

Protein snacks
Even more water
Band-Aids, Neosporin, other first aid items

Cell phone car charger plus regular charger

Did you list gloves?

Good idea I saw, buy an atomic clock to hang with your tack on the stall front.

Ice boots for horsie.

If you don’t have ice boots, be sure to put a bag of ice in your cooler. You can use shipping boots and put ice in them.
