paddock boots

I have been a Kroop paddock boot devotee for the last 15 years, and my current pair has finally hit the end of their life. I see now that the same pair on the Kroop site would be $500! They last me a long time, but that is simply more than I’m willing to spend on paddock boots.

Please share with me your favorites and why so that I have a jumping off point for finding a new brand. My local tack store only sells the lowest end Ariats, so I’m goin gto have to order I guess…

thanks!

I forgot to add- are any of you wearing the Tredstep paddock boots? They have very mixed reviews on Smartpak.

My favorite are by far the Ariat Heritage III Paddock boot. They are SUPER comfy and the leather gets really soft and supple rather quickly. I haven’t really tried any others because these are perfect and I wear them daily. They last me about 1 1/2 years which isn’t bad considering I wear them in the snow/rain/mud/yucky stalls…etc. After that some of the seams come undone - but they are still wearable.

I have never tried the tredstep paddock boots, but IMO the footbeds on their boots are not comfortable at all and I wouldn’t want to walk around all day in them!

I converted from Ariats to Tredstep and I love my new paddock boots. I still have an old pair of Ariats that I love but all the new ones that I tried looked like plastic and they were very stiff. Tredstep’s leather is like butter. I use inserts in them because of a foot issue I have but they are super comfortable. Highly recommend over Ariat. I won’t be going back. Loved my old Kroops too but the price was too much.

I have Dehners and they are over 7 years old and still going strong. I put Ariat inserts in them and they are compfy as Ariats without the falling apart issues.

I think the stock Dehner paddocks are about $240 which is more reasonable especially if they last 10 years !!

I replaced my last pair of kroops (still in use, but I use them to show in when I use half chaps) with hadfields and they are holding up well. Next pair would probably be Hadfields/Dehners, but I am in the group that will nevereverbuy another pair of Ariat boots. Let me expand that - I will neverever buy ANY boot that cannot be resoled.

I went from Ariats to Tredsteps too, and I LOVE LOVE the Tredsteps. The leather is awesome. I get terrible joint pain from autoimmune disease, and I still find them to be quite comfortable. I love them.

I have always been a fan of Grand Prix boots. That being said, I have a pair that is 12+/- years old and I absolutely love them. I recently just purchased a used pair from someone and they seem to be decent. I have only worn them two times however. The original pair has been resoled with success. Next time I will probably spend the money on Dehners or Vogel.

Really liked my tredsteps but the heel has broken off from the sole and they haven’t been worn for more than 2 years. I am hoping to find something that is made to last and doesn’t break the bank. Any advice would be very appreciated.

Swoon, Dehners… The loveliest paddocks around. None of the others can compare (especially not the Ariats) to how Dehners feel in the stirrup. Worth every penny.

Mountain Horse. Bought a pair four years ago and they are still going strong. Super comfortable as well.

I love my Ariats too, about 200$, great comfy foot bead

I’ve been looking to switch from Ariat to Grand Prix, both because I’m tired of buying stuff made in China and because the quality of Ariat’s paddock boots has declined precipitously – last two pairs have cracked across the toes long before anything else was wrong with them. Can anyone tell me whether the sizing of the two brands is comparable?

Wow, I’m sad to hear the Kroops have gotten so expensive. I was just thinking the other day it might be time to replace my old ones, which have held up remarkably well for the better part of 20 years.

Has anyone had luck finding paddock boots for a wide foot?

My last paddock boot purchase was a pair of Tredsteps. The boot was gorgeous, leather was very nice and held up well, I can’t say the same for the sole. After only 2 years (ridden in almost every day, at MOST 3 horses. NOT worn around the barn for chores or such.) I had a hole in the sole of one boot and my foot. I was sad to get ride of them as they were super comfortable.

Now I ride in my friend’s Ariats that she donated to me. But those are half a size too big so when I gather some extra funds I will be looking for something more durable.

Has anyone had luck finding paddock boots for a wide foot?[/QUOTE] Not me :frowning:
I have some onld Dansko’s that will not last much longer, and nothing I try on compares to them –

I wore Grand Prix’s for nearly 20 years…too wide of a foot for Dehners and people either love Ariat’s fit or hate it…for me it was instant back pain. The GP’s were perfect. Then my last pair simply never fit quite right and didn’t hold up as well…I was crushed. Found out via my tack shop they had changed a few things…not in my favor. However, also was advised that Dehner had changed to adjust to a wider foot so I tried them and low and behold, I finally get to wear and love Dehners! They’re wonderful and have held up perfectly! I’d give them a shot. They are so well made and they certainly fit a wide foot now.

well if anyone cares about my paddock boot saga, I decided to go with grand prix. They are taller than the kroops, so they took a minute to break in because they were digging in to my lower calf. They also have a more padded footbed, so they felt a little weird in the stirrup at first. All in all, ok so far I guess though.
In other news…
Is anyone wearing any of those new (IMO) weird looking paddock boots like the Sergio Grasso Cathargo or the Deniro ones that smartpak sells? Is this the new trend? They seem so big and bulky.
