Paddock boots

what are your favorite paddock boots?

i used to love my ariat paddock boots (don’t remember the specific type), but when i ordered a new type several months ago (i think the heritage iv?) they were the same size but soooo tight on the top of my foot and around my ankle… so looking to see what everyone else likes

Ariat make wide size paddock boots. It used to anyway, I have an older pair.

I just listed a lovely pair of Ariats for this exact reason.

I had to size up a whole size and add a custom insole.

have you found something else you like?

Seems like all the OTR brands - Ariat, Blundstone - are getting shoddier.
IIWM, I’d cough up for customs.
My Dehners are now 22yo & though leather is showing wear*, still very wearable.
And comfy as slippers from Day One.
I got the slip-on version after replacing zippers ruined by arena grit.

  • Blame my lack of care.
Cracked across the instep & elastic is stretched out.
I imagine if I’d cleaned & conditioned after every use they’d look better.

yeah my older pair is the size i love and is so worn down… but i refuse to throw out lol

i really just use them for barn “chores” (checking on my retiree, supplement refilling, grooming day)… i only ride in my tall boots and am getting a pair of customs after i decide which brand … i don’t ride in the paddock boots. not a bad idea though

I bought a pair of custom LaMundial paddock boots. I love them so much I bought a second pair to wear after the first pair began to wear. I have worn the first pair every day for almost 2 years and they are still great and show no wear. Honestly. They are lightweight, which is important to me because of health complications, and have a lower heel that Ariats. That Ariat design caused me major problems. I’ve barely worn the second pair…. Right now I only wear them to go out in jeans, etc. Last year, I bought a third pair that is still in the box.

If you are only wearing for barn chores, I love my pair of ankle high Bogs muck boots. I wear my paddock boots w/ half chaps to ride. I ended up finding an ancient pair of Ariats on Ebay that fit perfectly.

I’ve never owned a pair of tall boots and am terrified to buy my first pair in case they don’t fit.

I’m adding in that I have a very old pair (1995) of Dehners I still like very much. I ordered a pair of their paddock boots and they were just really heavy, which surprised me as I never felt my tall boots were.

Try the Ariat men’s in the same “equivalent” size as the women’s (if you are a woman, that is). I went to buy a new pair and found the same thing; apparently the lasts changed at some point so the sizing isn’t exactly the same. I tried the men’s and they were cut more generously and fit me well. I didn’t buy them because I wanted brown and apparently brown is impossible to get right now in men’s :woman_shrugging:
