Paint for Wooden Fence

I need to repaint my black four rail wooden fence. Pressure treated lumber, originally painted with Lexington Fence Pro:

Part was given one coat in 2020, the rest in 2022 - also one coat. The part painted in 2020 has definitely worn. I am sure two coats would have been much better, but it took DAYS to paint this fence (with a roller).

Anyone find any better products out there?

Get a sprayer it goes much faster.

I’m using Behr fence paint for my fence. My research says Bedec is the best but I can’t get it in my area.

If you are rolling Gartner paint would work.

I agree with the suggestion to get a sprayer. You may be able to rent one. I bet you could get it all done in a day or two with a sprayer.

In my experience a roller is a good way to go. A 7 inch, 1-1/2 inch nap, and a roller paint screen in 5 gallon buckets. It gives a heavier coat than a sprayer. No overspray and drifting either. You can manage (according to the internet) about 1000 feet of 3 board and posts in a work day, so it is around half the speed of a sprayer, but without the time spent on sprayer preparation, adjustment, and cleaning the sprayer. And it is a one person job, spraying requires two people - one to spray, and one to cart the sprayer.

My pasture fences have 2 sprays, one initially when the pressure treated dried to <11% moisture, another spray at 4 years, and then the third is now being rolled at 8 years. Fence builder told me in my climate to expect 3 years from the initial coat, and 5 years from each re-coat after that. My experience is 4 years into the second coat the south facing sunny sides of my fences were desperately ready for more paint, the shaded northern sides still look nice and black.

I am using FencePro latex this time on the badly faded runs of fence. I did a test section of 200 feet a few months ago to evaluate rolling, coverage, and how latex adhered over the faded oil based paint. So far it looks fine, no fading and no bubbles. I know you asked about other brands of fence paint. All I can tell you there is that the Majic brand and the Behr brands that I bought in gallons to use for replacement boards has held up no better than the oil sprays, and the Majic brand 5 gallon bucket is twice the price of Lexington 5 gallon bucket from my Lowe’s.
