What’s the minimum age for a horse in this type of event ?

I don’t see how Americans can be elitist about eventing. Ever hear about pride before a fall ?

I think we ALL know any number of things that can go wrong for us. It is just nice to be up on day 1. It will be much nicer if we are still up on day 3.

I didn’t read the EN commentary before it was edited. Was this the comment that bothered people? if not, what was said that was offensive? I’m curious to see the comments for myself.

Does anyone else re![](ember this pair from Rio? I seem to remember we all thought this horse was really cute. I don’t remember how he finished, but he is in 10th place at the mo!

I think it was the tone over a specific statement. American humor is not for everyone. I generally don’t look at EN as a “professional” news source, and don’t take EN too seriously, but I read the original article and while I thought it was a bit too depreciating, I didn’t think there was any one comment that stuck out as horribly offensive. It was just a series of depreciating quips that could be taken the wrong way, and apparently, were. I think one or two sardonic comments is fine in general as we all understand, and the author was equally depreciating to herself, too.

That being said, it did very little to raise my opinion of them as a serious source of information.

OK, as we are nearing the time for a start, I am looking for the live scoring. Is it going to be the same as the dressage? I see ‘markers’ for xc, and time, but do not quite know how that will work?

Agreed! This is the loveliest horse, I will definitely throw my hat in the ring in a COTH battle to take him home  He made the track at Rio, which tripped up many a very experienced combination, look like light work. I so wish there was a way to watch him today!

I do not remember the name of the company, (Athletrax maybe?) that has some videos up? Maybe if they see this, or someone can put a bug in their ear... I would pay closer attention, but I have been horseless for over 10 years now...

Most of the XC jumps look like good solid fences - the page I am viewing shows only the fences, not the lines, so I have no idea of the difficulty of the lines.
I do not like 6A - the picture looks like it has an overhanging lip that a horse could catch.
11 ditch and palisade type fence - may be an “easy” jump at this level, but that is they type of fence (along with big open trakehners) that frighten me and ensure I stay a nice safe novice/training level rider.
13 a skinny between the towering letters of LIMA … eek
I hope the big open oxers, 15 and 22(?) have frangible pins
24 skinny upright -ugh

rest of the course looks like something I would love to jump if all fences were shrunk to a Novice level course difficulty!

There is a sketch of 6abc (on EN,) and the approach to 7. To me, that is the worst thing on the course. Unless the photos are nqr. And I do not think that. The photos are always good on EN and CoTH.

I looked at the course map, and I swear I would get lost if I were trying to ride it. It’s like a maze in places.

are any websites showing live results or live commentary?
First rider out and first Canadian should have completed by now

yes, go to the dressage page. They are coming up. Karl completed with 11.2(?) time penalties. So far, he is in first.
update, Ruy has been eliminated.

I was expecting live updates from EN … maybe they’re on delay so that the comments can be screened for politeness before posting?

More or less live results are here: https://online.equipe.com/en/class_sections/436801

Lynn Symanski is on course now. Ruy Fonseca from Brazil is e’d.

Thank you!
surprised Karl so slow - maybe very twisty or he was instructed by coach to bring home a clear round as first rider out and sacrifice time
Brazil rider eliminated?

looks like Karl had 11+ time penalties…
