Paper Chase - Hunt Pace - Favorites?

Our group is planning a paper chase as a fundraiser and I wanted some feedback on what some of your favorite ideas/rides have been. Were they themed? Distance? Jump options etc??

TIA!

What’s a paper chase? I’ve done two hunter paces. That was fun.

No themed, just moving out @ a good hunt pace, with the options for rail heights & age levels.

5-6 miles is a good distance. We always enjoy a mix of trails & fields, with stream crossings.

Try to avoid riding thru a field of cattle if possible.

It would be in a state park so I’m fairly sure I can avoid cows  Tons of trails, and we’ve done ones before that were themed like murder mystery, poker, and holiday ones.

Looking for any other suggestions??

The last one I did had a holding area about 1/2 way through, so that all of the clumps of riders were spread back out. That was nice, except the guy holding us didn’t tell us how he was keeping track of the time-out, so it didn’t affect overall time. It would be nice to share that info.

I love a good Hunter Pace, about 2 hour-long on average on varied terrain (fields, woods, hills, water crossings etc.) and a good jump diversity/variety for all levels. Those are my favorites.

I’ve also done Poker Run rides where you are supposed to look for buckets or baskets holding cards at specific points during the ride, get a card, then give your whole “hand” at the end of the ride. I didn’t enjoy this as much because of the stopping-to-get-cards feature, but still, if it’s held on nice terrain and trails, that is just fine!

MTA - years and years ago I did horse “rallyes”. They were much like a Hunter Pace (teams of riders, a map, a timed ride, optional jumps) with an added feature: the riders had to go to specific “check points” where you had to perform a skill on horseback successfully, before being allowed to move on. For instance, shoot at balloons hanging from a string, trot with a glass of water on a specific distance without spilling it, etc. etc. That was a LOT of fun as well.

This is a great idea! At first I thought you meant there were “teams” and you had to tag the next rider like a rely. Hey - I like that idea!!

make sure to have an option for slower, non-jumping teams and you should do well. i like a good polker ride or turkey trot for fun.
