Parra Suspended

A lifetime ban would have been better but at least this will keep him from riding anytime soon or, since it’s at the FEI level, riding for another country.

Glad to see it’s significant enough to have an impact.

At 62, the 15 year ban will likely have him close to a lifetime ban as far as riding goes.

Absolutely, pleased with the ban. However, I’ve heard (cannot prove) that he is in South America giving clinics and making a good living doing it. It’s frustrating to me that these heinous people can continue to have anything to do with horses. I guess we should take what punishments are handed out and, at least, feel it is a step in the right direction.

He has until Aug 27 to appeal

If he does appeal the CAS could lengthen his suspension. He’d be wise not to.

This is long overdue. The abuse and suffering he has inflicted on so many horses is beyond belief. 15 years may not be a life time ban but it is good to see justice being served. Does anyone know if William PFF is still alive? Parra should have been done after what he did to that horse.

Ugh. I know who he is and that he’s controversial, but I’d never watched the video clips linked in that article. How awful. I’m glad he’s getting punished, though honestly, he should never be allowed near a horse again.

The longer I live, the less I understand people’s desire to force horses to do stuff like they obviously find difficult to do. Piaffe has always been a movement that I feel is only “natural” to a horse when it’s very anxious or frustrated or both. Horses don’t trot in place on their own for good reasons that I know of. Is it a display of ultimate collection? Sure, I guess so. But…so what? Why is that important? What does it prove? And if it needs to be trained and performed in competitions, does it have to be done so MUCH in a test? When does it become less about exhibiting collection and more about just “doing a trick” that the horse finds difficult to sustain for extended periods? How is that good for the horse? Shouldn’t dressage be about strengthening and improving the horse in general?

Sorry. I’m sure that’s a whole nuther thread. I just feel the abuse starts when the original purpose of what is being asked of the horse is lost.

William PFF has passed. He was cared for and well loved by his owner. Despite lasting effects from the trauma, he was the sweetest horse and lived out his life on the farm he was born on.

From the COTH article: The [FEI] investigation involved a thorough review of extensive video and photographic material, as well as multiple witness statements.

I hope the two BN Coaches who witnessed and personally warned Parra about his abusive riding in warm up rings submitted their statements. Since they each failed to file a protest at the shows, without any repercussions from USEF for not doing so, perhaps they explained to the FEI why they chose not to, and instead allowed the abuse to continue unchecked.

The FEI’s Reasoned Decision report will be interesting to read when it’s released.

I’m glad he received this suspension. Thankfully, given his age, it’s basically a lifetime ban.

He was always rough with horses.

If he stays in the US, are there still restrictions on clients as far as Safe Sport rules?

I am sorry to hear that. When this happened, my heart went out to his owner. I had seen later posts of him with her after the incident and it was quite evident to see how much she loved him. How those people could watch that video and hold Parra not responsible is something I could never understand. I am glad William PFF got to spend his life surrounded by love.

He is still training clients at his home in Jupiter Farms

It’s actually 14 years since last year counts as time served.
Read Nancy Jaffer’s article. He speaks in it. Basically says he was framed.
Really should have been a lifetime ban.

Here is a link to the Nancy Jaffer article for those who like to read it.

Of course he would say he was framed. Thank goodness for the videos they had. I am sure he is still using the same nasty training methods. To those clients he has, I have one question. Why???

"I feel very sad and remorseful. Okay, there is stuff I should have not done I did, passion to help a client with a horse. Now one of the horses in question is winning everything in Mexico. He was tough.”

This is not remorse you arrogant a$$hole
