Great! I can’t wait to get mine! I think my horse will be much more comfortable in it as well…
Got it, used it!
Hey, used my new Passier girth today. Worked well. It has amazing stretching abilities and scared the pants off me when I compared it to my smallest girth - it was much much shorter. Bought a 22" Passier and it fit like a 20" leather girth that I have but it may stretch more. Almost couldn’t pull it enough at first but after the first hole it’s very easy to tighten. Help really well without feeling that I was over tightening.
EE, can you tell me approximately how wide the girth is? I would love to give it a try on my v.e.r.y girthy boy, but it has to be pretty wide, and also if you have to go pretty tight initially…well, that could be a definite problem
Robin
I love this girth on my opinionated pony mare.
I bought two about 7 years ago and am still on the first because it’s so durable. I cover it in a sheepskin cover to keep it clean. I actually bought it because it was the first brown girth I found that came small enough for my pony. I was worried about the elastic because she has no withers, so everything used to slip and she used to get raw girth rubs regardless of what girth I tried. But, this girth changed everything. Not a single rub mark again ever, and no slippage at all (even with the girth cover). I went slightly smaller than my other girths (an 18", can you believe it?), and would do the same again.
I recently switched to an all leather girth that someone gave me, and the first time I rode in it the rub marks were back. That was enough to convince me to stick with the elastic.
Because I keep mine in a cover, I’ve never had to wash it. I just wipe off the leather portions on occassion.
Raison - I ordered mine smaller, too. We’ll see if it fits. It should arrive mid-week (yay!). I ride a barrell, too, and I’m hoping that the combination of this girth and the new no-slip pad will minimize the slippage yet keep the fella comfortable.
Robyn, I can’t give you a measurement, but a long time ago, before I was ever interested in the girths, a friend of mine used one and I remember thinking that it was quite wide. If memory serves me well, I believe it’s noticeably wider than, say, a Professionals Choice dressage girth or a typical hunter shaped overlay girth.
It doesn’t seem wider than the average girth but it’s not slim.
It’s stretching abilities are amazing but I didn’t feel like it ever was over stretched or super tight. I tightened it once, did something else, and tightened it once more. The saddle stayed secure even for mounting.
It arrived!
First of all, thanks to everyone for sharing your reviews of the girth. You convinced me to give it a try.
I’ve used it three times, and I’m very satisfied with it. My horse, who is usually agitated about girthing up (you know “the look” with the wrinkled-up nostril and the evil eye), has been standing happily in the crossties, ears forward, watching the goings-on with no regard to the girth being tightened. What a difference it makes to start our session without that negativity.
As Elegant E stated, it seemed quite small when I took it out of the package (I ordered 2" shorter than my normal girth), but it fits great. It has quite a bit of give without being unstable. I feel like I can finally get my girth secure without overtightening. I notice at the end of my ride that there is hardly any hair on the girth compared to quite a bit of hair that was always on my previous girth (Professionals Choice). This leads me to believe the neoprene was pulling hair out, although I can’t be sure that is true.
It’s a clean, tidy-looking girth with the keepers well-placed. You can easily put the billets in the keepers even if you’re in the first or second hole. Also, I believe it is not as hard on my billets as my former girth.
Overall, I’m quite happy with it! Thanks again!
I’m glad you like it and that your horse seems happy with it. I’m thinking about using it with a horse i’m riding now because he hates his girth to be tightened, and i think if it had a little give like these elastic ones do, he won’t be so cranky. they last FOREVER and are easy to keep clean. I hope you are as happy with yours as i have been with mine over the years!
silly question so forgive me for asking, but how is this girth different from say a PC girth that is the elastic neoprene combo? I’m looking at new girths (have a logic now) since my horse is a tad girthy, but is also recovering from colic surgery and I know that my current one will end up being too big for him once we are back to “working” again. would like something soft and squisy underneath and maybe a bit broader for better ab support…
I will be awaiting opinions on this question, Ames, but will tell you that my “tad girthy” guy did not like the PC girth that you described at ALL! I think it feels somewhat “sticky” on the hair.
Robin
I was thinking something similar, and have noticed that both the PC and my logic have the hair in the seams - never thought much of it until I read your post about the hair being pulled out - ouch! I have noticed on the PC girth I used to use that it would “buckle” near the top creating a ridge that I would have to straighten out or else ride the poor boy with that lump pushing into him.
I like my logic, but I’m not convinced that it’s “his” girth if you know what I mean. Of course, some of his symptoms could have been from general ouchiness that finally got resolved during the surgery - who knows. I do knwo that I want something soft, squishy and padded - the search is on!

Not a silly question at all - i just think this girth has more give. The elastic on the ends of those other girths are nothing compared to these. The only way i can possibly explain why it might be more comfortable for a horse is to use sort of the same analogy that humans use. Have you ever worn a back brace that was elastic and wrapped around your lower back? They are quite comfortable, becasue they support but also have some “give”. If I use the same analogy, i can’t imagine taking something leather or platic with neoprene and wrapping it around because it would be too uncomfortable. I just think horses like these because they are much more comfortable - more like support vs. something hard that gets tightened all the time.
okay - that makes sense. I know neoprene (whether hard or soft) is a “sweaty” material - at least it makes me sweat to touch it
Are the passier girths soft and squishy as well? It’s probably more for my peace of mind given his surgery - he may not even care, but it will make me feel better
they aren’t squishy and i’m not sure about soft - it’s a stronger cloth material that has a lot of elastic inbedded in the fibers.
Hmmm…how to describe it…the back brace analogy is good…
I want to say that it is like a super heavy duty Ace bandage…stretchy but supportive.
Reagarding the difference between the PC (my former girth) and the Passier: The fabric part of the girth that attaches to the neoprene backing by velcro does not stretch. Yes, the neoprene is soft, but the girth does not actually stretch. The only part of the girth that stretches is the elastic on the ends. With the Passier girth, the tightening is distributed throughout the entire girth because the entire girth “gives.”
I have no doubt that my horse is much more comfortable in this girth than in any other girth I’ve ever used. I don’t think you’d be disappointed.
