UPDATE IN POST #27!
I used one for a while and loved it. It was the only girth that particular trainer had in her barn. All were quite well used & really comfortable for the horses. I bought one hoping for the same experience. Unfortunately the new ones obviously don’t come pre-stretched out & it was so tight that I had trouble getting the correct-size on the horse. Breaking it in was not going to be easy as the girths are quite durable so I wound up giving it away & switching to a different girth. Too bad because I really liked it, it never caused rub marks & it was simple to care for.
I’ve used passier elastic girths for probably close to 10 years. Never have had an issue with them. They don’t cause rub marks or pinch and really give with the horse. Only thing to be careful of is not make it too tight as they are easy to cinch up. I also gave a girl at my barn an extra one i had because she was having trouble with leather girths and she now loves them too. well worth the $$$.
Soooooooo, good for a girthy horse or no? I’ve been intrigued by them but wonder if my horse would love it or hate it. He did NOT like the neoprene Wintec girth, or the neoprene Professional’s Choice girth…and has lately develope an aversion to the wool fleece girth that I’m now using with elastic at both ends. Maybe bareback is what he really wants
my mare really liked it and i won’t go to any other kind of girth except possibly a string girth, but those are hard to cinch up. I’ve used it on horses that are girthy, but i always have the girth pretty loose when i first tack them up and then tighten just before i get on and i haven’t had many issues even with girthy horses. they are soft, so i think sometimes without that hard edge horses like them better because of the elasticity.
I used it for my mare that was always getting bumps under the girth, and she never got them with this girth. Also, she did not give me “the glare” very often once I found this girth. I love this girth, and would recommend it to anyone. I also have a passier leather girth with elastic on each end, and that one has held up very well, and I love that one too.
Alinera, you bring up a good point…sizing. I can use a 26" or a 28" Professionals Choice. If I decide to buy one, I wonder what size I should get. Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks for the feedback so far. I’d still like to hear from others!
I’m wondering if it’s better to go one size smaller with this type of girth. I’ve had to do so with double sided elastic girths.
Thanks for the topic. I hadn’t known these existed.
If i had known, i probably would have bought one a bit smaller because they stretch a little bit, plus, because they are so elastic, you can really cinch them up. you can always start lower on the billets and go up but if your horse loses weight and the girth stretches a little bit, you’ll wish you got a smaller one. IMHO, horses seem less irritated with these girths, so it’s easier to tighten which makes you run out of billet holes faster!
I don’t mean to hijack this thread, but to those of you who have these girths, do they keep the saddle in place or does it tend to slide a bit because of all the “give?” Thanks much ~

That’s a good question…
Does anyone else have a review for this girth before I go spend money on yet another piece of tack?
The review of it says it doesn’t slip.
I’ll let you know next week. Ordered one from Smartpak. My old girth was dying so I’m giving this one a try. Btw, SP charges half the price for shipping than Dover and the girth was slightly less $$, so cheaper overall unless you find it locally.
One of my horses will ONLY wear an elastic girth. Barnstable http://www.barnstableriding.com/dressage.html also make one that is much cheaper (about half) than Passier. I have both and he can’t tell the difference. As far as I can tell the only difference is in the quality of the buckles. http://www.horsetackinternational.com/barnstable-elastic-dressage-girth.html
Hi - no, the saddle does not slide so long as you buy the girth a bit smaller than normal. I think they keep the saddle in a better position than the leather or string girths. think of it like a band aid on your finger - if it’s a bandaid that is just plastic, they tend not to hold up as well as the ones that are cloth that contain some elastic that give when you move. might not be the greatest analogy, but it’s sort of the same.
Thanks for all the information, everyone! Equibrit, I had never seen any all-elastic girths except for the Passier…and it’s nice to know you’ve used both and are pleased with both!
Again, thank you. This seems like a good purchase!
Anyone have suggestions for cleaning them?
I’ve had one for years (love it!) and have always tried to keep it covered with a sheepskin girth cover to keep it clean, but on my young horse I’m wondering if I should keep doing this. (Instructor thinks it may be a little slippery with the cover.) I’ve always washed mine sparingly. What do you do?
I just throw mine in the washer machine with the saddle pads, and line dry.
Hang it, hose it and leave it. When dry oil the leather bits.

Well, they’ve sold at least 2 this week…just ordered mine! I, too, will provide an update once I use it!
Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!
Love it – this is the only girth I’ll use. I actually used one because someone needed to borrow my girth for their horse and I used someone else’s (the Passier elastic) and I could swear I noticed a difference in my horse’s happiness riding in it compared to anything else. I have three – mainly because of the sizing issue – I had to keep going smaller than I would have expected. I also just hose mine off, and scrub off the sweat marks and let it air dry. Comes up fine every time. I highly recommend.
