Hey all,
I’m looking for recommendations for pasture board in Central or Northern NJ, within 1hr-1.5hrs of Montclair NJ. I have one semi retired 13 year old OTTB gelding. Don’t need top notch facilities, but top notch care is non negotiable. The kicker is I need some place asap, latest of October 1st. Sooner would be better. My research isn’t coming up with much. Any suggestions or warnings greatly appreciated!
I live in 08551, on the edge of your zone. I field board my 3 year old at a facility down the road from Duncraven.
There are several pasture board options on the Amwell Valley Trail association page website. There’s usually a few on Craig’s list for central NJ. Also, check out the NJ pages on Facebook (New Jersey Equine Boarding/Training/Shows/Clinics or Central NJ Horse Group)
In general, $400+ will get you the more detail oriented places. $350 range would be places with a ‘catch’ or two.
For about 5 years I boarded at Toy Box Farm in Ringoes. It may be a bit too far for you. The pasture was about 14 acres, with a giant barn-sized run-in shed. In the winter and spring the lush part of the field was closed off, but opened up for the rest of the year. The trails can be reached from the property, there’s a large indoor, dressage arena and outdoor jumping ring. When I left, there were about 10-12 horses in pasture board. Some owners, like me, came regularly. A few others were hardly ever there.
This was about 8 years ago. I lived in the Woodbridge area at the time and thought it was worth the 1 hr. drive. Most boarders have been there for many years.
