I have my colours with another club but have been invited to opening met with a different club. Can I wear my patent topped boots? I am not wearing my colours on my jacket.
Can’t answer your question, (call the hunt’s secretary -s/he will be able to tell you), but they are “patent leather” tops. Patent leather is the name of any leather with the very shiny finish.
This is a great question and I do not know the official answer. If I had to guess I would say no, proper female guest attire would be black coat (sans colors) and plain black dress boots but again, that is only a guess. I hope someone will pipe in with the answer on this bit of attire trivia.
That being said, as the other poster said call the hunt secretary where you will be capping.
It is my understanding (We actually just had this conversation in the shop today) that it is not appropriate to wear your colors from one hunt with another hunt. So, if you’re a guest or a new member without colors, you need to wear plain black boots (and no colors).
But, when in doubt, ask. Better to ask the secretary than take random strangers’ advice!
I think (based on pony club knowledge memorized a LONG time ago) that it is okay at as a member at a joint meet, but not if you are hunting with another club as a guest. But you should definitely check!
patent tops go with colors and it is not appropriate to wear your colors with another hunt, unless it is a joint meet.
That being said, I would ask because I bet they won’t mind if you wear the boots. I just would NOT wear the colors.
Patent tops should only be worn when wearing colors.
However, I would clarify that you are not allowed to wear your colors; the reason I say that, is that we were invited to another NoVA’s Opening Meet, and specifically told that we were welcome to wear our colors. Each hunt decides the “attire rules,” and often, on Opening Meet, they are more lenient on other hunt’s members wearing their colors when joining them.
