Pau 5* or "Les 5 Etoiles de Pau"

Last 5* of the year. It is the one with the amazing fences such as a violin and a painter’s palette.

The first jog is completed. Caroline Martin (USA) is out, withdrawing her ride, Islandwood Captain Jack, after being sent to the holding box. MGH Grafton Street and Pippa Funnel (GB) didn’t present and another Brit, Tim Cheffin with Gaston, also didn’t present his horse. There will now be 49 going on to Dressage.

It is available to watch live on Horse & Country.

That’s really sad for the three riders who can’t compete. Hoping everything is going to be ok for all 3 horses.

Gutted for Caroline, hoping for huge things in her future. She’s had a great summer over there.

is anyone watching live?

what does the “M” on the live scoring stand for?

Correction, it is an activated frangible. I originally said missed flag.

Fantastic xc action at the Pau 5* today: Huge shuffle to the leaderboard, only 4 double clears, no horse falls, no accidents. Just refusals/runouts. Just the way it should be!!!

Who’s the x-country course designer?

Pierre Michelet, who also does Le Lion d’Angers young horse championship and did the 2016 Rio Olympics and WEG in Normandy.

So, another 5* for Jonelle on a mare. Does she overtake Tim for world #1? I’d love to see that!

As of September, Tim has 610, Jonelle has 569, and Ollie has 559. I don’t know how the points shake out, but at least she’ll be further in front of Ollie!!!

Thanks! I realized after I posted that with Tim winning Maryland and Jonelle Pau, their positions are likely to stay the same for now.

It’s a good year to be a Price!

Really enjoyed Pau and love the juxtaposition of Maryland and Pau at the end of the year. Two 5*'s that couldn’t be more different.

I’m in awe of them both. I hope Tim and Jonelle get some mainstream sports attention, not only because they deserve it, but also because they are two genuinely interesting, intelligent people with incredible personalities and a great story.

What an asset to our sport.
