Pedigree gurus please

A race breeder friend of mine is giving away one of her TB broodmares. What do you think of her pedigree for sport?

:“Shotgun Sassie”–I saw her dam and loved her. Sorry I don’t know how to add the link to pedigreequery.com

By the very nice Belong to Me, from a female family of mostly East Coast and Florida horses. Most interesting is the 1st dam is 4X4 to daughters of Beau Purple. I had to look him up, but his big claim to fame was he beat the great Kelso 3 times!! He had new track records in the Brooklyn H., the Man O’War S., and they Suburban H.

Great broodmares are seldom given away. No mare who isn’t great should be bred.

Also since TBs are bred for speed, without much thought for temperament or long term soundness, I would never breed a TB that hadn’t first proven it’s capabilities in sport.

There are various reasons a race horse many never have a performance record. In this mare’s case, she was foaled in Colorado, which isn’t exactly a hotbed of racing. Her dam is a stakes placed winner of nearly $200,000, and comes from a good family of black type runners and producers. Her sire is a wonderful son of Danzig with proven offspring. I haven’t seen a picture of her, but I wouldn’t call her worthless.

I’m sure that it wasn’t your intent, but I sense a bit of elite haughtiness coming from your free jab. Not all of us can pay tens of thousands of dollars for our bloodstock. And TBs are the cornerstone of many other breed associations.

As always, my 2 cents and please let me know if I was off base about my perception of your tone.
