Pegasus World . . .
Arrgh. The irritation I feel about a certain group of Chromies on Facebook who have had their own version of reality and assorted conspiracy theories to share and applaud reached a peak post-Pegasus. There are a few posters there who are knowledgeable about horses and racing and try to set them straight on a lot of their nonsense - a valiant and futile effort. I got blocked for pointing out that all horses ship overseas in “containers” - no matter how valuable they are - and supplied a link to a company a friend works at a that does the shipping. The page owner pitched fit and blocked me and many others. Darling Chromie is not a normal horse and should have a plane all to himself!

But all that aside, they were going on and on about how he was asking them for help in the post parade and as loading began - they could see it in his eyes as he knew they loved him. They also all agreed that he was dead lame and dragging his poor leg (they varied on which leg it was) and how inhumane everyone was that they saw a staggering horse and forced him to race!!
Oh jeeze, the same people that were convinced that the horse’s connections were trying to kill him and the former partner (that made a horrible show of himself on T.V. after the horse lost the Belmont) sold his share of the horse to “save his life”?

I’m not on facebook so thankfully miss the really way-out-there fans.

I Know the horse has some obsessed fans but had forgotten about the telepathic hystericals.
Glad that’s over now.The horse is fine and those angst ridden souls can sleep at night. Bless their hearts.

Yes, sleeping at night dreaming of Chrome running free with his band of much loved, by him, mares

I suspect they’d die if they actually saw a shed and associated breeding… (that’s not love and Chrome should only breed for love  ).
A couple of them were looking forward to seeing video and pictures of him “running free with his band of mares”… yeah, um… no.
:lol::rolleyes::lol:

Well let them have their version of Black Stallion Syndrome. They at least have interest in racing now, thanks to Chrome.

Oh my. Do you think that the “Chromies” believe that since he’s booked to about 120 mares that the farm justs turns him out with all the mares at once? Surely not…

Isn’t that the ways its done? Put some wet paint on his belly and look to see what mares have painted butts at the end of the day or the next morning.

Now, now. In Ireland, I am sure that you are aware that they DO have the stallions who get the group of mares.

I still love the story about the stud that they branded as being the “paddock rapist”. Apparently, he got schooled real fast. There are those who are concerned about those vicious stallions. For every one of them, there are 100 mares that will dress those boys right up, if they dare offend.

Yup, just like those sheep!

Well you know, pasture breeding is really just not as popular in the U.S. as it once was.
Especially in Kentucky. Where, as we know, remarkably valuable TB stallions with exorbitant fees are covering very expensive TB mares and many of those have valuable foals at side.

Yup, they’ll turn the horse out to pasture breed.

When hell freezes over.

Even those lucky irish boys aren’t having a free-for-all with 120 mares.

I feel like there’s a “Not for Love” joke in there somewhere but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is…

Is the Bring Chrome Home group still active?

Is the Bring Chrome Home group still active?

Apparently it is, but it seems to be called ‘Chromes Home’ now. As looney as ever though!

Selective Breeding? Maybe we should leave it up to the mares instead of us trying to figure it out using “paper”.

Hong Kong racing chief has different take on PWC like race. Thinks it is an unastainable format.

I think they had better spiff it up for next year. It was a bit shabby looking (on TV) compared to the other big races. I don’t know if the track is just not very scenic or the camera angles were poor, but I was less than impressed.

When you watch the Kentucky Derby, the crowds, the architecture, the beautiful hats and the flowers and landscaping all complement the gorgeous horses. The backdrop of mountains at Santa Anita and the ocean view at Del Mar are very impressive. Even Hollywood Park was gorgeous with its Old Hollywood look and beautiful landscaping. The other thing is it seems to me that with the other big races there is a real sense of excitement which was lacking in the Pegasus World Cup. Was it just me?

From the racing I watch in general, Gulfstream doesn’t have a fancy backdrop or infield like some of the tracks you mention. It does have the huge Pegasus statue. The saddling ring (I think it is) is quite picturesque with fountains and such.

The Derby hats I could so totally do without. IMO, the ‘hat’ tradition has gotten quite overblown.

Australia seemed to like the Pegasus idea, they’re holding a similar format race for turf sprinters (fitting for that country) in October.

It is very interesting the diverse views on sweepstakes racing. We will have to see if this format has a positive impact in North America. Australia has a vibrant industry and I was somewhat surprised at Hong Kong’s dismissal of the format. That being said I agree with PeteyPie, the PWC telecast was unimpressive. There is talk that the PWC will be at Santa Anita in 2018. Not sure a change in venue will make a difference, but surely SA is closer to the celebrities, if that is the fan base PWC is seeking to attract.
