Pelham Recommendations?

Looking for recos on a pelham with a thin mouth. Goal is finesse, not brakes (mare goes XC in her dressage bit). I’ve used a double jointed one back when we did need brakes, but a) it’s fatter than we’ve since discovered she likes, and b) we just don’t need that much hardware. No single joints, so I think we need some sort of mullen?? The traditional rubber ones are going to be too fat :frowning:

And yes… we’ll be riding in two sets of reins

a friend of mine had a leather mouthed pelham made for her small mouthed mare, it worked great for her, maybe something like that?

If you look hard you can find a thin rubber Mullen mouth Pelham.

I actually really like my Stubben pelham. Short shanks, thin mouthpiece with a copper lozenge link (my cob prefers a double joint but can’t have anything thick in his mouth).

Or there’s a basic mullen mouth pelham on Dover for $40: http://www.doversaddlery.com/tom-thumb-pelham/p/X1-01124/

Thin. Moderate shank. Mullen mouth. No joints. Good price. What’s not to like?

Try a nathe pelham.

They are expensive but Nathe bits are great and they make a Pelham version.

Myler pelhams have pretty thin mouthpieces, comparatively with other brands. Plenty of options too, if you want something other than a plain, straight mullen mouth.
