Oh wow. Thanks for sharing the link. I had heard rumors it was Ted Nash via sources who actually participate in a rowing club on the Schuykill.
Having Ted Nash finally named? That’s a problem for U Penn. Will they investigate? Their rowing program is named after him and he’s legendary in that area.
So incredibly messed up and sad. I hope Fox doesn’t face a lot of emotional abuse from people in the rowing community in the wake of this revelation.

I wasn’t expecting that story to be horse related, but it is, if anyone is skipping it thinking it’s mostly rowing.

There were two coaches involved in Fox’s abuse. A male coach who was an Olympic rower… and a female riding coach. They worked together to groom the minor.
Both have passed away. This is not a SafeSport issue, but it is being investigated by US Rowing. Ted Nash is an enormously consequential figure in that sport… on par with Jimmy Williams and George Morris in equestrian sport.
The female riding coach who has been named is not a “nobody” either. I don’t see what action would or should be taken in the world of equestrian sport at this time though. It just is a very sad and dark example of grooming.
The Philadelphia Inquirer also reported on the story and revelations over the last few days. They reached out to Buchanan’s family for comment, but got no response.

As of today, Sam Berry is listed as Permanent Ineligibility with a notation of “(Subject to appeal / not yet final)” in the description of the violations.
Wow, thanks for sharing this, will look for the movie. Apparently Buchanan and Nash tried to set up a foursome (and I don’t mean tennis) with a couple of girls they groomed because Nash was the “running” coach and lived near Buchanan.

Wow. I wonder how many more will come forward now that he was named. I highly doubt he stopped abusing minors.

The movie is well worth watching… it was emotionally harrowing though. But a compelling portrayal of the grooming process.

Is his wife still in her key USEF role? Because that’s pretty messy…
I have no idea. You might look at the USEF website to see if she’s still in whatever position she was in.

I see value in making it know simply for the fact that there may be a person out there who might recognized that they were a victim. It may help them seek counseling, if needed and help them clarify and make sense of their younger life
It may help them become aware and be a guardian helper of others, breaking the cycle

As much as I would like to see The Tale, there’s a part of me that dreads viewing it. It sounds like it might elicit too many bad memories from a certain era of my life with horses.
Yet that’s also the ugly beauty of a film like The Tale. It drags out the long hidden, unspoken secrets of the equestrian world and gives it exposure to light. Ultimately, that can have a cleansing effect. And I’m confident I’m not the only one who’d watch the film and quietly nod, “Yes, that’s how it was back then, when they had so much power, and no one believed us.”
Thank God things are changing. Slowly. But changing nonetheless.

The wife of the Oregon trainer has been telling everyone she had no clue about his indiscretions. Ya, right!!! One of the girls was living in her house when all this was going on. Plus his terrible behavior was well known in the horse community for over a decade.
