People Attempting to Undermine Safe Sport

Whats the story with this one? Saw someone wanting to host an event at his place in FL. There were quite a few open items on the Marion County CC website.

I only know what it says on the list, which is “allegations of misconduct”. Someone needs to contact USEF (just call them) and ask if they can host an event at the home of someone suspended by Safe Sport.
I don’t think it’s allowed, and USEF members could possibly be in trouble if they attended.

Has anyone found out more about this situation?

USEF is launching a new SafeSport campaign around asking the right questions, starting with this video.

I was warned back in 2005 as a 20-something eventing working student in the Middleburg community to steer clear of the polo guys in general. I’m sure there are good guys in the sport, but the skeezy ones more than make up for their presence.

It doesn’t seem to have changed much.

Not sure if this has been covered and I missed it but is everyone aware Tom Navarro, James Giorgio, and Nina Shaffer are suing USEF, OSOC, and Safesport in federal court at present time? Filed at end of April. Seems like arbitration found some issues in safesport procedures and said it needed to be heard in federal court. Just found it interesting

How did you find this out? Is it posted online?

Court records are public. I was actually searching USEF since I had PACER open for work and I was curious if anyone else had sued them over horse death/injury in team competitions from the thread about Chromatic, and then there it was… :open_mouth:

Interesting! I wasn’t aware of this either.

You were, but you just don’t remember it. They plainly said they were going to take another run at it, after the last case fell flat in the courts. According to the filing, Tom Navarro makes the claim that he could talk his way out of being banned, if SafeSport would just let him make his case for it. If he now has the financial and legal resources to participate in two cases against SafeSport, why hasn’t he bothered fighting the court and jurisdiction where he was anointed with his “Sex Offender” status? That fight would remove his SafeSport ban, if he could win it and get the case annulled, yet he hasn’t ever tried.

Ahhhhh… you are right. I didn’t put it into the historic context.

Here’s another one: https://www.pacermonitor.com/public/case/53872930/Strine_v_The_United_States_Center_for_Safe_Sport

wrong thread, sorry.

Since HISA was ruled in violation of laws could Safesport be next? Or are they set up differently?

OMG - the Fifth Circuit, yet again. So much BS in that one. It’ll go to SCotUS on appeal - who knows? But yes, someone in Amarillo, TX will now go after Safesport, for sure.

Is this perhaps a result of Chevron being essentially reversed?

Read through the doc–so those folks want to be paid for damages on a technicality they never had hearings in front of the national governing body (USEF) before being ousted, and while they’re at it, tear down the Ted Stevens Act?

Anything else I’m missing?

Good luck with that. USEF has to abide by Safe Sport decisions. Period. They could have hearings up the wazoo if they wanted to and it wouldn’t make one iota of difference.

If Safe Sport says you’re done, you’re done.

Well, if they’re banned via SafeSport, they’re banned from all Olympic sports. They couldn’t coach in an affiliated Gymanstics or Ice Skating program either–their membership there would be rejected under the same ban. So I’m not sure what suing USEF would do, the ban isn’t from them, they just have reciprocity with SS as an Olympic governing body.

I’m guessing they are lining up the case. But isn’t something like SafeSport required for a country to be able to participate in the Olympics?
