Permethrin Soak on Fly Sheets, Masks, Boots

Looking for COTH wisdom . . . . .
I know that people use permethrin soaked clothing. Can you use it on fly boots, masks, and sheets? Has anyone ever done this??

We have unusually large populations of ticks and especially black fly/gnats this year. Horses are getting welts from the gnats. Fly sheets only cover so much skin.

I wouldn’t want to soak the skin repeatedly with any fly spray products. It is only meant as a barrier. Maybe try the topicals like drops?

Or keep them inside during the daylight hours with fans and put them out after dark if it is that bad.

Sorry, wasn’t clear . . . . I was thinking about treating the horse clothing and letting it dry before putting on the horse. One application is supposed to last for quite some time.

I think it would be worth a try for neck covers, boots, and sheets, but I wouldn’t do the mask for fear of it getting in their eyes.
Though I’m not sure I’d expect it to last as long as human clothing. Fly sheets and stuff are made of material that isn’t very absorbent, vs a soft cloth for humans that probably soaked the stuff right up.

I actually just did this - treated bell boots, fly boots, fly sheets and the galloping and open front boots they wear when we’re riding out. I didn’t do fly masks because I was a little concerned about having it that close to the eyes. Will probably be hard to tell if/how well it’s working, but we’re in a high tick area so I figured there was no downside.
